Got a hold of some the other day... It was from a place I rarely buy gas from, but I forgot to stop at my usual (for 100%) on my way home, and so filled the bike (carbureted) with 91 E10 at this alternate place, as a matter of convenience.
Well, long story short, I almost got stranded the next day on the way home, and after wondering if it was fuel selector or fuel pump, since it acted like fuel starvation (while thinking the different gas was an awfully suspicious coincidence), I drained it and it initially looked like cloudy lemonade.
I took a sample in a glass jar when I saw that. At first there was a layer near the bottom that looked like sugar, then cloudy above. The pic captures that if you look close. That eventually resolves into 2 distinct clear layers, but the bottom one does NOT look like water. The upper layer can be made cloudy again with just a little agitation.
I quickly got some good gas back into the bike, and ran it for 10min in the garage, test driving it the next day. It wasn't Ok for a bit (mid-range RPMs were spluttery), but it eventually cleared up (thankfully) after 6 or 8 tries of getting it to rev good. I don't know if there was residual bad stuff in the bowls or whatnot that just needed to be cleared out, or if some of the passages actually got clogged with some kind of precipitate, but were able to be flushed out with the clean stuff. I'm hoping no undetected damage was done to any O-rings, etc.
I stopped by the store I bought it from on the way home (from refilling it at the good place, lol), with the idea of at least coming back to show them the sample and get a refund, but also to you know, let them know they had an issue - at least on the day I bought - but the young lazy-voiced and -mannered manager couldn't have cared less, and refused any kind of refund (as a matter of policy on gas). I wasn't really prepared for that kind of a response; basically told me to get lost and don't come back (albeit in a calm way) after I argued the point a bit with her (which I should have just dropped, looking back on it). Anyway, I made an online complaint with the corporate brand after that, but don't know what'll come of that. I don't care if I get a refund or not, but I would like someone to say to me, "Yeah, that wasn't cool, and how can we prevent that, or find out what happened?" A little empathy.
Now I've got 5 gallons of cr@p gas that I don't know what to do with, lol. Idk if it's got diesel in it or what...
