Jack Strobel - I have a 83 Evinrude 7.5 hp, the kill switch in the handle doesn’t work! I installed a switch on the side and have continuity from the ground, thru the switch to the coupler. Somewhere between that to the power pack it fails or the kill switch wire is non working? Help !!!

Welcome

To kill the motor the Magneto needs to be grounded, should be Black/Yellow. Maybe a bad connection in the connector (coupler)

When I went through kill switch drama on my evinrude I made the mistake of buying a cheapo replacement from Amazon. Turns out even the slightest voltage leak will kill the motor, which of course the Amazon switch had. Cost me about two days of banging my head on the wall before I figured it out.

So just to be clear, kill switch will not shut the engine off or it won't allow it to start?

That engine suppose to have CDI ignition and you kill it by grounding the pack out.
If it does not stop when trying to kill by the switch and you have continuity through the switch to the connector there might be problem with the kill circuit in the CDI pack.
I have had this kind of issue with some Evinrude and Johnson.
Especially with the engines with the CDI pack under the flywheel (1989-later) but also with some that has the pack outside the block.
