Rotella T4 15w-40 diesel
oil 30w. 1989 engine oil. WALMART!What is an oil I can get locally that I can use? Walmart used to carry QS 25W40 but no more. They still carry the Penzoil 25W40 but I’m not sure about that stuff and it’s expensive. The old Merc manual says 40W which I can get at Tractor supply. It should always be above 50*. It also says no multi weights which the QS is supposed to be 25w and 40w oils mixed/ blended into the 25w40.
Rotella T4 15w 40, I also used to run super tech 20w50 no issue in my 3.0. Don’t over think it too much. What is an oil I can get locally that I can use? Walmart used to carry QS 25W40 but no more. Why overthink it?Gee, how about you visit a MerCruiser dealer or order the correct stuff from Amazon or someplace
Ayuh,...... Chevy oil filters are all the same, for the I-4s, SBCs, 'n BBCs,....I actually had to look up the oil filter for a ‘65 Chevy II so that I got the right filter since the marine section is no more. as for why I’m doing this vs going to a dealership. Trying to get the boat in the water this weekend and boat shops with a retail store are very out of the way.
Yup. I just couldn’t remember what it was. 4x4 trucks with a 90* adapter take a different filter thoughAyuh,...... Chevy oil filters are all the same, for the I-4s, SBCs, 'n BBCs,....
Only the V-6 is different,......
The different numbers are for various capacities,.... ie: short, mid, large,....
always some nuances but that is one thing chevy did well 2 filters covering 60 years...Yup. I just couldn’t remember what it was. 4x4 trucks with a 90* adapter take a different filter though
Most of the marine motors I’ve been around in my life has been either 2.5 or 3.0L or straight 6. I have tons of 3.0L Alpha one gen 1 parts since I’ve torn apart 2 parts boats. It’s why when this boat came up and I knew what it was I bought it ( as well as it’s just a really nice boat )always some nuances but that is one thing chevy did well 2 filters covering 60 years...
If you haven't had one a 3.0 is one of the best engines to work on and the one we had served us very well for 20+ years.
excellent. Same here cut my teeth boat mechanic wise on my grandfathers 1966 Penn Yan that had the straight 6 (150 HP), the outdrive and tilt system was terrible on those early ones. Neighbors had a 1969 Starcraft with a 2.5L and then we had a 3.0 for years. I cant believe how much abuse that 3.0 took. Used to take our girls and their friends tubing, with a low pitch prop would run that over 4k rpms for and hour straight. 25 yrs old when i sold it still had 145 psi compression .Most of the marine motors I’ve been around in my life has been either 2.5 or 3.0L or straight 6.
