Hi, Its time to pull the bravo1 lower unit and grease the gimble joint and also do a lower unit oil change. any advise on which to do first? Also can i just drain the oil once the lower unit is pulled away from the stern and refill after bolted back up?
thanks jim

Easier to drain the drive before removing, unless you have a stand to place the drive on keeping it up right

If you have a greasable gimbal bearing (most are sealed now), it can be greased with drive on or off

Do put fingers in gimbal bearing and turn to make sure it feels smooth when rotating

isnt the u joint in the outdrive called the gimble? I assume you have to pull it apart to grease. 1990 vintage

The gimbal is part of the transom assembly not the outdrive. The outdrive drive shaft goes in thru the gimbal and into the motor coupler. The older models were greased from a grease fitting on the lower starboard side of the transom assembly
