Re: Evinrude starting problem
This is what i know so far:

on the clamp: 2402e c53929
on engine: C0053928
on the pull start drum: Gt-580892-52 D1

The archive gives an age of 1974 for 2402.
The lever below the pull start drum says - stop, start and fast?

I can see the throttle handle on top, but there are two knobs at the top. One at the top seems to say choke, but i have another which is not clear and one at the bottom which says rich or lean. Can anyone tell me what these controls are for and how far i should set them - as i can turn each knob a long way out.

fuel mix 50:1
plugs champion ---RJ6C gap at 30

I am told that if I have good spark and compression, then I may need to adjust the carb. I may be getting too much fuel. I may need to clean the carb. The carb may have a stuck float or the float may be out of adjustment. Make sure the choke or primimg system is working properly. Make sure that the fuel is mixed at 50:1. I should use a gauge to check compression. But so long as I have a good bounce off the compression stroke that should be ok. Another thing that is common here are leaking crankcases. I may have leaking crank shaft seals. For a 2-stroke motor to run the crankcase has to be under compression.

Is is worth me bothering - or take it to a marina ?!
