    1996 force 120hp lower compatability

I believe the spline count is the same for both lower units. This is is the 6 jaw part https://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury/products/79932a20-shift-lever-kit. Perhaps you can compare your with this or call Crowley Marine for added info. Item 22 on this part is the Force 3 jaw part...

    1996 force 120hp lower compatability

Both do bolt up, BUT 3 or 6 are not interchangeable without modifying linkage. Modification requires removing power head. If the motor is/has been used in salt water, removal can be an issue. Accordingly, I would recommend replacing with the 3 jaw, unless the REQUIRED modification has been...

My latest issues - 1997 Force 120HP plus a new kicker

Went out fishing 3 weeks ago and both my main motor, the Force and my kicker a new Tohatsu 15HP, crapped out. The Force was the simpler diagnosis. Drained the LU oil and it was both low and milky. I was able to find a replacement Mercury LU locally. Got it at a great price. Vacuum tested...

    2018 Tohatsu 9.9 Won't Stay Running

This new motor with about 12 hours on it won't stay running. It acts like it is is running dry of gas. I have always run it dry after taking it out. After it stops I can not pump gas using the bulb. Yes, the tank vent is opened. Any suggestions?

1997 Force 120HP LU Lessons Learned (Again)

I checked the impeller on my 120HP OB. For those not used to re-installing the LU, it can be a pain. 1st lesson learned: Make sure you get the upper shift shaft connected to the lower. I started with the LU in neutral. Any gear will do as long as you know which .For me the easiest way is to...

    2016 Weldbilt 2070 upgrade

I lost some of the room in the front with the fuel & anchor lockers. Some slow progress has been made. CC is filled/patched/painted, most wiring fuel line etc. pulled and nearly all electronics installed and wired. The front lockers are built and not installed. I built the frames. Rebuilt and...

    2016 Weldbilt 2070 upgrade

I had a 1979 Wellcraft Fisherman180 which I let get just too bad to make it worthwhile to rebuild. My fault, I know, but it happens. Just look at all the stories here. ;-) My previous thread agonizing over the original decision...

1997 Force 120 Cyl 4 more carbon than others

Did a compression check today, and noticed plug 4 had more carbon than others. Also plug 2 seemed to have a little moisture on it. I switched the plugs around. Buttoned her back up, and ran it on the muffs for a few minutes. Checked the plugs again, and plug 4 was still more carboned than...

    Sealing a new floor

I have two questions re: installing a floor in a new aluminum jon boat. 1. Type of floor? Solid plywood or a traditional plank floor similar to this: http://images.craigslist.org/00y0y_3lWV0VAgN7v_600x450.jpg 2. How best to seal which ever version is selected. Will WOG's sealing formula...

    My dilemma

    1. I own an old 1979, Wellcraft fisherman 180 with all the typical rot problems, (transom, floor and probably stringers). It is powered by a good, low hours Force 120. 2. I am 72 YO in reasonable good health and only boat when the sons, grandson want to go out, 3-4 times per year. We live...

Part number for late 70s tachometer

I have a 79 Wellcraft 180 which originally came with a Merc 140, but now the tach is getting flaky. I do not want to re-cut the cutout which is the ~2/12" size. Anyone know of replacements or the original part no?
