I'm trying to split the crankcase on my 1984 merc 9.8 block to replace the lower crank seal - but having trouble getting the phillips bolts out. Is there a knack here? It's really hard to get any sort of torque on them before the screwdriver pops out.
Hi all, I'm running out of ideas here and getting fairly frustrated.
I have a Merc 180cc Sailpower (basically a 9.8hp from approx 1985), which is only running on its top cylinder.
I've put about 100 hours on it over the last couple of years, and it's always been reliable, until a long 8 hour...
I'm replacing the water jacket gasket, and exhaust plate gaskets on my 1985ish Merc 9.8.
Can I use Ultra-black RTV to seal the gaskets? The mating surfaces are a little rough from corrosion.
