My brother got sucked out to sea at Daytona beach. The lifeguards saw him and kept hollering into their megaphone to swim to the side. He finally got the message and he was safe. We never knew of riptides as we were from northern Wi. Learned a lesson that day!
Bought a boat several years ago, the po had just got back from a run clear out to the Apostle Islands and then I bought it. I did all the maintenance on it and just for giggles decided to pull the top cap on the drive even though it passed all the tests. The top gears were almost gone! the po...
My 95 Larson isn’t the best either but I decided to restore it. It should be done by spring. Be prepared to get glass dust everywhere! I’ll never get back what I got into it but it was an interesting project.
At the shop we have a yard trailer, one tech put a small solar charger on it and it did not work well. Another tech put a regulator on the charger of some kind and now it works perfectly. I’ll try to get a model of the regulator this coming week. Note: I did not read all the responses on this...
Take a picture of the carb, record the serial number on the carb, go to your local parts store and show them what you have and need. It’s just an automotive choke system installed on a marine carb. They should be able to fix you up. If not retry a different parts store.
that being said, are you...
Automotive calipers get wet every time it rains. I get the salt water thing, but living in a salt water environment they get some on there also. I’ve always believed that boat calipers were mfg with less care about quality, but then again your trailer sits around a lot and doesn’t get used...
Saw that fairly often around here. Supposedly self priming but depends on the outlet hose routing. A quick pull off the hose burped the air out of the pump and then it goes well.
exactly, I’m used to the big water. You break down out there and you are miles from help, even with towboat insurance, bad weather will kill you in a minute. Lake Superior cold water only gives you 10 minutes on a good day.
Look under your sink in the head, or any nearby floor panels for a ball valve. Sometimes you have to look deep into your boat to find them. Ac unit usually has a valve near the circulation pump, normally in the engine room but I’ve seen some in silly places. All sink drains discharge overboard...
Yes. No more cleaning points, setting dwell, and timing. You still have to check the cap and rotor to make sure it’s in good shape but that’s just regular maintenance.
I take the point plate out and put it in a waterproof container and stow it onboard for emergency. That way if the electronic...
Found a lid for a cooler, picked it up, a mile down the road was the cooler. Still have it 35 years later! Buddy got a fairly new chainsaw out of a snowbank. Another guy had an electric beer cooler that held kegs he got out of a bar, put a wheeled chassis under it and we used it for family...
