Electric Steering for 2005 Volvo Penta?

The best I could find was an electric helm that drives an electric pump - and then a hydraulic actuator. Would probably be much better than the cable to hydraulic PAS and maybe a better actuator that would last longer, but at about $5K, I am thinking I will wait for a truly all electric...

Steering actuator leaking... replaced two years ago...

Yeh, I figured that might be the case; however, it is so difficult to get back there to work on it, I am figuring I will just remove it all and know that I have killed the problem.

Electric Steering for 2005 Volvo Penta?

I see electric steering coming on new(er) boats (at least outboards. Anyone know of a conversion kit or plans for a conversion kit for the year 2000+ hydraulic power assisted steering actuator in the Volvo Penta stern dives... the ones that leak... just replaced mine 2 years ago, already...

Steering actuator leaking... replaced two years ago...

2005 5.0 GXI... steering actuator lasted two years, so now the cooler AND the actuator are leaking...guess I will take the Starboard riser off and change them both at the same time...actuator should have lasted longer than that... and I don't know what about the cooler would ever leak, but it...

Four Wins Volvo Penta stiff steering

to close out this thread, I ended up putting a ultraflex M90 cable, made a positive difference in easing up the initial force needed to move the helm, bends may have just been too tight for the other cable. also lubed the slide that that the cable moves back and fore. Noticed my steering fluid...

    More Speed - for fun.

Sorry, I think I must have asked the question wrong, what I am looking for anyone with experience with props that are more for top speed than the pulling and cruising props that I currently are using. I am assuming that a 3 blade prop will get me 1 or 2 mph, but if someone has actually run...

    More Speed - for fun.

Looking to get more top end out of a runabout... because... Boat is a 2005 Fourwinns, 190H, with VP 5.0 GXI 270. 1.51gear ratio, running on average 3500 lb. It is an aft end heavy boat... Props that I have and use... 1. Powertech MQS4 16 for pulling/watersports and it is great, boat is on a...

    Dometic Xtreme cable and helm

So I was informed by SeaStar - Dometic tech support that the Xtreme helm is a 4 turn and what I probably want is a HPS helm which is a 3 turn, which uses the normal cable... still looking for anyone with experience with either of the new rotary helm setups with the planetary gears... either the...

Anyone convert over from the "standard cable and helm and install the Dometic Xtreme parts. did it have a better feel, as good as a boat steering can be? Thanks Scott R. Orlando

Four Wins Volvo Penta stiff steering

So, did some checkouts Saturday, for the Volvo, the tube in the actuator that the cable goes through has no ports or holes, it is just a tube, I disassembled the old unit I had set aside for a rebuild... but I made sure the flats were vertical anyway :) So, the PS unit runs just fine with the...

Four Wins Volvo Penta stiff steering

I was just reading on another post from a couple of years ago that the "flats" on the part that is held when tightening the nut that holds the cable to the steering ram need to be vertical, is that true for the VP steering actuator and would it cause this problem? IF so, what does having the...

Four Wins Volvo Penta stiff steering

So, my 2005 Four Winns 190H with 5.0 GXI Volvo motor is having some stiff steering issues. I just replace the helm and cable; the steering had a lot of play. Everything is "tight" now, BUT the steering seems kind of stiff. the part I put is Dometic SHT91523, and I replace the cable and helm...

SX-M shift plate mount bolts stripped

Got the HCs installed yesterday and put it all back together, ran it today, no issues, works like it should. The nice thing about helicoils is that the hole size is only a 1/16 more than the original, so in areas where there isn't much meat left, they are great. The tangles versions are supper...

Started it up today, decided just to start it and not mess with trying to blow anything out, it ran like a top, no issues. Thank you all for your help.
