    Alternator hookup VP Gxi-g

Any thoughts on if having run it without the positive wire connected may have damaged the alternator electronics... exciter and ground was hooked up, just not the positive charging (heavy) wire. I would think with no load, it is just free spinning, but with all these newer electronics, I don't...

Volvo Penta engine coupler runout … aka wobble

ok, took the flywheel housing off and ran the motor, flywheel is running true, didn't put a gauge on it but I don't think there is a reason to, it is good, I did use the slow-motion camera again, the wobble in the coupler is obvious, the flywheel is true. I think if I had realized the coupler...

    Alternator hookup VP Gxi-g

Hi all, want to make sure I am not missing something with an alternator hookup on a 2006 Volvo Penta 5.7 Gxi-g. This is a pulled motor, not in a boat, the orange wire (heavy gauge) that is part of the main harness is cut at the alternator but is attached at the starter, and the is continuity...

Volvo Penta engine coupler runout … aka wobble

The drive shaft pulled out, and from what i was told, the outdrive was undamaged, just the transom attachment, so the shaft wasn't bent, I do have a photo of that, and the outdrive. I have no idea what condition the gimbal bearing or surrounding structure was in.

Volvo Penta engine coupler runout … aka wobble

Unfortunately, I don't have any history on the boat this came from, it was pulled from a boat that was in a road accident, trailer went off the road and into a ditch, boat came off of trailer, the outdrive separated from the transom at the top pivot, I assume from the inertia of being thrown...

Volvo Penta engine coupler runout … aka wobble

Yea, Scott D said the same thing, unfortunately, the center is moving just like the outside rim, and I can see that in the video also. I am surprised though, with my alignment bar, that I can move the coupler hub about 2 inches at the end of the bar with about 10-20 lbs force, that equates to...

Volvo Penta engine coupler runout … aka wobble

I took a slow-motion video of wobble, will not get a chance to work on this until sometime in the new year...

Volvo Penta engine coupler runout … aka wobble

Thank you, going to take it apart hopefully this week.

Volvo Penta engine coupler runout … aka wobble

All, sorry if I wasn’t clear in the original post, the motor is NOT in the boat, so I have full access to work on it. I was wondering if anyone had seen this wobble of the coupler on their past experiences, and what was “normal”. Since the engine was from a boat that was involved in a road...

Volvo Penta engine coupler runout … aka wobble

Scott D, Thanks for your insight, So, I am pretty sure this would be the original coupler, as it doesn't look like the bell housing has ever been removed, I guess the best thing to do is remove the bell housing so I can really see what is going on and spin the motor. Any tricks to removing the...

Volvo Penta engine coupler runout … aka wobble

I picked up a VP 2006 5.7 GI motor with the intention of putting it in a project boat…it is in great shape, however… the engine coupler is “wobbling”. When I measure the runout of the coupler HOUSING (not the spline, but the outer metal housing, on the diameter, at the aft most edge, measured to...

Steering hose to steering actuator - compression or o'ring

All, thanks for the replies, it was the rings that go between the actuator body and the fitting that confused me, for some reason I was remembering them on the hose side. Compression fitting, no oring, got it, thanks. As for the leaking actuator, yeah, the last new one I had installed lasted...

Steering hose to steering actuator - compression or o'ring

quick question, on the SX-M type drives, for the steering actuator, do the two hoses attaching to the actuator have o'rings or are they compression fittings? Thanks Scott R. 2005 volvo penta 5.0 gxi

    Hot water takeoff and return

Hi all, I have an engine that I might be re-furbishing to replace my 5.0GXI-e, it is a 5.7 GXI-D. It has a hot water system (for cabin heat I assume?). I know where the return is (large t-fitting), can someone tell me where the takeoff is and how I would plug it. It would be the bottom parts...

    convert 2005 5.0 GXI to 2012 5.7 GIC

If I drop a new(er) 5.7GIC ~2012 in the place of an old(er) 5.0 GXI-E ~2005, what would I need to change. Boat is a 2005 Four winns 190 horizon I know I would need to have a 14 pin to 10 pin adaptor for the electric, but is there anything that would need to change on the exhaust side, same or...

Volvo Penta SX-M Mysterious Rattle. Not U-Joints. Not Gimbal.

Your description sounds like the "rattle" of the internals that I get with my SX-M. I chased it for a while with some post on this forum and others. Answer back was "it is a normal sound for the SX-M when the drive is not under load" - aka - not in gear. With the gear oil filled to the high...

Steering at low speeds - Volvo Penta

thanks for the quick reply, and it is a 1200 psi one that is needed, for the Volvo system correct, I see lower pressures available.

Steering at low speeds - Volvo Penta

Any chance you (or anyone) have a GM/Delco part number, it is very confusing just googling it. Also, I guess I would need a seal kit... any past part numbers that we know work would save me a lot of time trying to track it down, I would rather have the part on hand before than taking to the...

Steering at low speeds - Volvo Penta

Yea, I guess I was thinking the pressure at idle may be on the low side, so that would be the pump wearing... it would be the same cost to just change out the whole pump as it would to buy the pressure testing equipment and time get in there to check it... It would be nice to know if the...
