Sorry guys I should’ve been more clear. The shifters work correctly. What i was referring to is the shift cable itself. Following the adjustment procedure, to set the barrel and bolt hole length to 6”, you must engage the cable pushed in fully (towards the transom). This on one motor is forward...
Hey all. Got the boat in the water (twin 5.7 mercruiser) and all went well the first trip. Last time we had it out, it was stalling while going from either forward or reverse to neutral. This motor is the LH motor, so your typical forward (shifter all the way towards the stern) is reverse in my...
The constant beep was a stuck float in the drive reservoir so all good there.
Retimed the motor and it is running much much better. It will randomly get a sucking sound and want to stall but a quick blip of the throttle and then it goes back to idle.
I still need to figure it out because I...
So I started it up, seemed great. All of a sudden after like 10 seconds it’s got a solid beep. Checked codes and it’s code 14 - coolant temp sensor low temp. Then started doing the typical crap.
I agree, my thoughts is vacuum leak somewhere causing the computer to think its getting more air and dumping fuel in - thats why I changed the intake manifold gasket. Agree or you think something else is going on?
I should probably replace the TB base gasket too just to be sure because its...
New intake manifold gasket went on today. Once RTV is dry after work tomorrow I’ll see if that solved anything. If not injectors will be getting sent out to be cleaned and flow tested. Hoping to resolve this once and for all, can’t wait to get it in the water. More to follow tomorrow.
Here and there I can get it to run good, and if I give it throttle it is quick and responsive, but once it kicks itself into run like crap mode - it starts making a sucking sound from the flame arrestor, and will start to lope like it’s a big cam motor. When it’s doing that if I give it throttle...
I did not do a leak down test - compression yes, and it did hold the pressure but I didn’t do a formal leak down test.
I was thinking of just ordering a Intake manifold gasket and TB base gasket and do those since they’re not expensive and it will cross that off the list
I will try that next.
I just verified fuel pressure again, it’s about 34 psi at idle and when reved up it’s like 32. Even when it begins to hesitate and die it stays in the 30s and when it stalls it holds in the 30s
Swapped IAC, TPS, MAP from the port motor that runs great. No change. Bog if I open it from idle, stalls at idle, if I rev the motor then back off it stays at a high idle then slowly comes down and then stalls
Water issue fixed! Intake hose was misaligned in the lower unit. Runs cool now.
still will only idle at a high idle. Also found if I give it WOT from a idle it will bog and sometimes backfire. Compression checked all 8 and they were good and all within the same number of each other. Spoke with...
