the only problem down here in Florida, is the phones and tablets shut off when exposed to the sun due to overheat (both iPhone and Android). plus you cant see the screen unless down below in the cabin. its iffy with the bimini up.. if you leave the phone...

did you make sure that each lifter was put back to the exact same lobe? flat tappet lifters mate for life. if you swap lobes and lifters, you usually take out the lobe and the lifters.

I wouldnt remove the thermostat. it is used as a mixing valve on I/O's without it, the block gets too much water flow and the exhaust doesnt get enough.
