Re: poor water flow problem from Tell-Tale - 1985 I6 115hp Mercury
OK, I think I might have something figured out. I'll try this out this afternoon when I get home. I searched on line for the impeller kit that I bought. These photos show the housing the kit I bought. One shows the base too...
I see many references to temp alarms and wonder if I have one on my motor. If not I'm thinking it should be easy enough to install one or better yet a temp gauge. I asked the guys at the shop where I picked up my gasket what the threaded hole right next to the spark plug on the #1 cylinder is...
OK fellow sailors, my water flow problem continues. After a new impeller, impeller housing, and cleanout of the water jacket I still have low water flow from the Tell-Tale. On start up it takes about 30 seconds to start flowing and then it never gives a consistent flow. I did buy a low pressure...
On a previous thread I had created I had questions about getting the cover off the water jacket. Okay so I have the cover off now and have one of the pieces of the impeller. removed. There should be yet another section of the impeller still hiding down where I found the one or I'm guessing it...

Re: 1985 Mercury I6 impeller disintigrated
Yep got all that off/disconnected. Here is a shot from the rear same angle from what I can tell as what you shot yours at.
And yes I have the four sheel metal screws and lower cowl removed. And not doing too well with getting the 1/4-20 bolts out...
Re: 1985 Mercury I6 impeller disintigrated
Wow, well that tells me a lot thanks. So I wasn?t trying to open the correct part anyway. I was trying to remove the exhaust manifold. The manual isn?t helpful in this area at all. Obviously from your picture the cover for the water jacket *can* be...
I recently purchased a 1980 Wellcraft V20 Steplift with a 1985 Mercury 115hp I6 OB. It was suggested in addition to changing the lower unit gear oil and plugs (if they looked bad, and they did), that I replace the impeller.
The impeller swap wasn't all that difficult other than a second trip to...
