I figured out the 1 of the balls is slightly larger and that's the one that goes in the circled hole..
Also I ran the pump in a bucket on the bench to make sure it worked, highly recommend. I figured out that I didn't have enough pressure on the check valves, only one would open. Tightened the...
I'm glad I asked because I'll be messing with the lower unit soon. never thought about what would happen if the shaft got jammed. sounds like something I would do. good luck with your repairs and if you find a good way to do it let us know. I'm sure someone will do the same thing eventually.
I'm curious how your shift linkage broke in the first place? i have a 40hp with same one, just wondering what to watch out for?
i have a feeling that pin will be a pain, not enough room to work in there. not sure if you could drill a hole somewhere in the lower cowling to line up a long roll...
there should be a roll pin in the linkage to the shaft. see attached photo, the pin is a bit blurry. I've never changed one but from what I've read you'll have to remove the power head unless you can figure out a different way to get that pin out. some have a cotter pin that's easier to remove...
this is a trim pump off a 1984-5, 45-50hp mariner 0A745967. the pump wouldn't spin so i took it apart and it seemed like where the motor shat goes in was mushroomed out enough to jam it, i sanded it down and got it spinning freely. i didn't see where that third ball bearing came from, anyone...
did you ever figure out what's causing this? there's a check valve somewhere that is suppose to prevent those rams from extending when under way. seems like it might be related to your issue.
I don't think your unit is the same as mine but I didn't notice the fill port was on the opposite side of the trim motor. there is a plug on mine where the motor connects to the pump so I assumed that was the fill port, it's not and i still don't know what it's for. every time I opened that plug...
Can i use the parts from a 1982 motor (bearing end cap, trigger, stator and flywheel) on a 1973 motor? should i also use the 1982 switch box and coils?
full story-
I picked up a beautiful monark 1542 mod v boat with a 1973 mercury 402 motor, SN 3727106, both manual and electric start. the...
