    Choke off, in water and engine warm. Acceleration to get on plan indicates rpm much higher than required.

    2004 Mercury 90 hp 4 stroke has Stratos tach set for 12 pole. However, tach idles at 2000 rpm and performs OK I just know rpm's are indicating high. Is it possible that the Stratos tach needs to be set at something other than 5 (which is supposed to be 12 poles).

    Decided that tach was toast. I purchased a new one on ebay which I am hopeful will work ok. Size is ok and has pulses instead of pole settings. Mine is a 12 pole setting so I assume a 6 pulse will be ok. Thanks for all the feed back.

    Tach reads beyond 7000 with key off and jumps slightly towards 7000 when key is turned on. Removing the signal wire made no difference with key on or off tach stayed at beyond 7000

    Farina tach needle Is pegged beyond 7000 and will not operate. Is there a way to determine if tach is bad or there is a problem on the sender end?

    Fuel problem

    I found the problem to be a leak in the fuel supply hose connection at the fuel tank. Problem solved with the help of all who responded to my request for assistance. Thank you for your help.

    Thank you for reply. Motor ran fine last year and Serial number is 0T646239 and fuel pump rebuild kit was Quicksilver 21-857005A 1

    One other item I am curious about, it seems when the engine is cold it runs fine and after running a short period and engine warms up is when the failure starts and I must keep compressing the bulb to keep running.
