Just replacing my anodes and noticed the old on the gimbal housing has no wear. Grabbed a multimeter and sure enough no connection to ground/other anodes. There doesn't look to be direct anode to outdrive contact because this is the one with the small gasket so I assume the connection comes through the screws? Ofc when jam the multi meter probes in the screw holes I can't really get much of a connection either, i assume they're maybe corroded on the inside? Any thoughts or tips on how to clean the inside of the small screw passages?

First make sure there is a bonding cable from the steering arm to the transom housing and from there to a bolt on the engine

FWIW I can't get a reading on the meter between the screws when screwed in (without the anode) so I don't think they're making contact anywhere :\

Nope. No power while moored.
With it not plugged in than anodes for the most part are not needed

What size/type boat do you have?

Unless your boat has a Mercathode then anodes would never wear. The Mercathode would also use power from your Bat

It's a 20ft Glastron bow rider and I can assure the anodes do corrode in the fresh water I am in. The rest of the anodes (trim + prop + drive plate) are all fairly pitted after last season. The gimbal anode was the only one that is smooth as the day she was manufactured.

Cleaned the snot out of the screw passages and still cannot get a connection. Any chance those are are isolated by design? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That one is isolated somewhat because of the trim line manifold Gasket

That is also where the Mercathode would be if it was installed. The anode is removed and Cathode is installed

Yeah I was noticing that...where it installs on the gimbal though (stud?) should carry the connection through tho, no? I don't really want to tear the whole thing apart to get connectivity but not sure what I am left with at this point.

Since all other anodes have continuity to the engine block and the gimbal housing does not, than only way I see is get into it or run a connection to one of the other anodes

Guess your having erosion problems with the drive and transom assembly?
If so might want to install a Mercathode in place of the anode

Not terrible corrosion yet. A little on the trim rams and a bubble on the transom housing. Trying to nip it in the bud before it gets worse.

Actually don't think you have an issue, that's just time a bare anodes wearing away over time
