Does anybody know off hand what it takes to get to the king pin and bushings?
I bought the really cheap from Marine Engine I mean 32 buck shipped fo4 bushings and to king pins. That's free they are 60 bucks USD în Ebay.
I have the motor off and the drive off how hard is it to take out the old king pin that is all dinged out and bushings and install new ones?
Does the leg have to come off?
Thanks guys.

Not an easy job.
To make it easier, the head and lower unit needs to come off.
If it's ever been in salt water?? 10X harder.
Need a factory manual too.
An acetylene torch helps.
Take pics and post the procedures when done.

I have the motor and and lower drive off. Does the pin slide out now or do I have to remove the drive shaft housing, cover leg etc. There is a soft plug on top of that pin. I have not seen it sold seperstely so I don't wanna break it.

Looks like your all over this motor 🙂, you should have a manual , honestly a PDF of the manual will be the best value for money you could spend fixing up this motor 🙂.

I assume the king pin is the steering pivot shaft and bushes.
I replaced mine , got a 500mm bit of stainless tube off aliexpress and made a new one .😁

I have the manual thanks I looked it up there seems to be a washer and a cap on top to remove and then you hammer it down with a punch. I found the exact replacement original from Marine Engine and the plastic bearings. I think the pin is stainless. It was so cheap like 12 bucks plus 4 dollars for the bearing
36 for 2 sets. I could not refuse. I cannot wait to get it done. I wish I would have done the second motor when I was rebuilding it.
They have the original crankshaft with the upper bearing on for 215. That's unheard of. I 5hink it's gonna turn out great.
I am going tuna fishing right after hahaha.

I got a bit lucky ,the original shaft was 1 inch and the aliexpress shaft was 26mm so I turned a bit of dia off the end so it would press into the yoke....and happily the extra .6mm was how much the original bushes had worn so the whole thing fitted together pretty good .

As you said it won't budge.
I have a torches but it is a Map yellow
It is stuck inside. This is supposed to rotate in the bracket right? And the bearings inside are plastic.

It finally came out I hammered a medium size 1/2 inch extention on the top of the king pin heated the bracket up with the map for 5 min hammered it really hard from the bottom first until it came out half inch on top. O think the heating did the trick. Bottom bearing came out haf way I am still trying to take out the top one using 1/2 inch 5/8 socket and extention from the bottom. OK it's out. Alotof crud where the plastics were.
So the motor is supposed to spin in the bracket bearings right? Mine was spinning on the front motor leg cover so on the external part of the king pin. I had to loosen the 8 bolts on the cap cover for it to spin easily. The king pin was not moving at all.

How would you clean that salt build up?

The plastics probably gradually got wrapped around the king pin tighter and tighter from that.

Ok I cleaned the bracket king pin hole.
The plastic bearing sleeves go in really easy now
I have no clue of that is normal and how they function. Never put new ones in.

Maybe Jerry can tell us I am sure he did it before.

Also half way down the hole there is another sleeve that won't come out is that there permenent. I think it's a stopper for the plastic bearings.

Am I supposed to just put the new sleeves in with so.e king of grease, sealant etc and the king pin too?
