Does this sound like a bad ground?

I just installed a fuel flow meter (Floscan), and everything seemed to be fine when tested. Yesterday, we went out, and the flow meter worked fine for a few minutes, then would stop. The needle goes to zero after a bit, and the LCD totalizer stops accumulating (but doesn't reset or turn off)...

    Well, that was easy!

Just finished installing a fuel monitor (Floscan). Did a little bit at a time after work each day this week, and finished up the electrical tonight. I was surprised how easy it was. Had two challenges; finding 3-way electrical connectors (found them in a small marine store), and getting the...

How far are you on your 'before launch projects'?

Like all of us, I had projects I wanted to get done before springtime. Just wondering how far we all got with our lists, as time is getting near. My list included; A) Install remote spotlight - Done B) Build a sundeck for the Admiral (Not done, but I have everything I need) C) Install a...

    What's the difference between

a 'terminal block', and a 'busbar'? It's one of those things that I'm not sure which is applied in which circumstance.

    Fuel Flow Meter

I have a chance to get a new Floscan 5520-264-2 for a steal. I have a single 188hp Mercruiser gas I/O, and I'm trying to see if I can use it. The Floscan site's model selector guide doesn't list this model anymore, so I'm unsure if it's the right one. I do realize that I would need to 'upgrade'...

    Winter blues? Not here!

Without trying to rub it in too much, my daughter and I went out today for a little trout fishing. Perfect day! Light wind, seas 1-2' (if that), and sunshine. She caught her first trout (2 silvers, 1 speckled/spotted), and a huge crab that let go just as she pulled it out of the water. These...

DSC Class D or SC101... How do you know which you have?

Rather then hijack, I'll ask it here. How do you know which DSC format you have? I have a Uniden Polaris, which came with my boat. I have no idea when it was purchased, but it doesn't look more then a couple years old. Can't seem to find the answer on Google.

    Two Deep Cycle Batteries?

For some reason, I thought I had one Starting battery, and one deep cycle, but tonight I found out that both of my batteries are deep cycle. Previous owner put them in. Is this ok, or should I really have one starting, and one deep? The engine is a 4 cyl MC I/O, and I've noticed somewhat slow...

    How would you mount this?

I just picked up a wireless remote controlled, portable Go-Light, and I'm pumped. Got it at the local boat salvage yard for $10, and then picked up the remote on ebay for $30, and it works. Sah-we-e-e-e-t!!! :D Anyway, It has a suction cup base, as it's the portable version, which is great...

    Fishing books

Does anyone know of a book that goes into depth on fishing? I'm looking for something that will show you how to rig lures for specific species, what type(s) of lures are best for what fish, trolling speeds, preferred baits, preferred temps, etc., etc., etc. Sort of like an Encyclopedia for Anglers.

    How do I clean this?

Boat was kept in the water for a couple of months before we moved to the new house with a lift. The bottom was painted (by previous owner), but he didn't pain the transom. I hade the bottom cleaned monthly, but this is what is still stuck on the transom, as well as the outdrive: How do I get...

    TSP or Car Wash soap?

It's Christmas Day, and 70F here in Florida. Good day to wash/wax the boat. :) The hull has that wondeful chalkiness, and I was wonderfing which would be better to wash it with; TSP or regular old car washing soap? Opinions are appreciated as always.

Prop change out results, if anyone cares

My 1984 SportCraft 22' Walkaround with a Merc 488 I/O, Alpha 1 Gen 1 was propped with a x Diameter 19p SS Quicksilver prop. Recommended WOT is 44-4800 rpm. With the 19p, I couldn't get it past 4000 rpm, and it sounded like it was struggling. Picked up a Quicksilver X Dia 17p SS prop on ebay...

    When screw holes don't match

I want to replace my currently installed 'plastic' antennae mount with a stainless steel one. The screw holes for the new SS match in width, but not in height. In other words, the top 2 will line up, but the bottom 2 will be off by half a screw hole. How would you remedy this? I was originally...

    Rust stains on fiberglass

It seems that the PO of my boat replaced the vent louvers, and may not have used quality SS screws. The heads are rusting, and leaving a rust stain. How do I clean the stain off? I'm changing the screws out tomorrow with SS, but the stain looks terrible. Any ideas?

    Prop lube/grease?

So what do you all use? The guy at the store said to use the 101. What are the other (less costly) options?

    Cleaning a Thermos

What's the best way to clean a Thermos? I rinse it a couple of times with hot water, then add some soap and hot water, slosh it around a bit, rinse a few times, then add hot water and soap and let it sit. It's one of the older metal green ones (the only kind worth a darn IMO), and I love it, but...
