    Adding a 2nd Bilge Pump

I want to add a second bilge pump (1200gph) for a number of reasons. It will be an automatic (either built in float, or separate float switch), and I'm wondering about plumbing and wiring. Current (manual) pump discharges on the port side out the transom, so I'm thinking have the 2nd discharge...

    Increasing rpm's without changing prop?

Boat is a 1984 SportCraft 222 walkaround, weight approx 4500lbs (per nada). Engine is a Merc 3.7 488 (170) 188hp. Outdrive is Alpha I Gen I. Prop is a Quicksilver SS with 19 pitch, which I'm not sure if that's the pitch originally on the boat. Owner's manual says WOT should be between 4400-4800...

    Anchor Line Thickness

I'm sure this belongs in the General Boating forum, but it's a question I would ask dockside... Move it as you deem necessary oh great Mods.. :) What size anchor rode (thickness) should I use for a 22' boat, with a weight of approx. 4500lbs? I have 200' of 3/8", but not sure if that's the...

Can you mix E10 with Rec90?

As many of you know, I had a fuel related issue with the new to me boat. Was convinced it was water in the fuel from the E10, but after verifying with Kolor Kut, there was no water in the fuel. It turns out the fuel filter to the carb was clogged. Easy (and cheap) fix. So I'm back on...

    Ethanol problem solved?

So I believe I have water in my tank (gee there's a shocker with the wonderful E10). Everyone here says drain and clean the tank, as well as on other forums. Ok. Before I do it, I decided I would get some Kolor Kut, and see if there actually is water in the fuel. Called about 40 places before I...

    Dry Gas... anyone?

Has anyone ever tried to use Dry Gas in a tank to restore old fuel? It supposedly restores the combustive properties to fuel that has been spoiled by water. I'm thinking this may also be a good additive when using E10.

    Literacy and what-not

Ok, rather than the other post get completely hijacked, I figured I'd start a thread. When I'm reading a post/thread, and have to figure out what a 'bilage' or a 'haul' is, or it's a never-ending sentence, or punctuation marks are randomly used, or the grammar is atrocious, it makes it very...

    Seloc Manuals

Are the Seloc repair manuals any good? Looking for the best 'good to have' book on the semi-basics. Not wanting to get the service manual volumes (& volumes & volumes). Just want to hear the general concensus on them. Thanks!

Whats the best way to correct this?

Had to replace the cpz fuel fill on my 84 SportCraft, as it was corroded and the plastic cap wouldn't screw in. I replaced it with a nice SS one, but the old one was 3.5" square, and the hole that the factory cut for it is huge. I can't find the same as the old one (don't really want it), and...

    Coolant

What kind of coolant do you all use? I have the illustrious Merc 488 (170), which I am understanding is an engine prone to cooling issues. Do I just get regular antifreeze from my local auto supply store? Full strength, or the 50/50?

    Does this look normal? (Videos)

Hey all. Just wondering if the water turbulence at the outdrive looks normal to you. The longer video is at about 1200-1400 rpm, neutral, and the shorter video is at idle. Just seems like a lot of splashing. Also, does the outdrive seem to be sitting unusually low? these are videos, click to...

    Engine cuts out above idle

Ok, got the new to me boat in the water today, and had some issues (see http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=419701 for details). the one that's really bugging me is that the engine was cutting out at speed. I couldn't get up on plane, but I attribute that to the additional water in the...

First Launching, and a Nerf Football....

Pull up a chair, grab a drink and your reading glasses. It's a long one (would you expect less from me?) I never launched a boat from a trailer before today. I just bought a new to me boat, and had to launch it to be able to get it to my dock. I spent time last night reading about launching...

    Question about cleaning canvas

OK, found this question by traderdavel in a thread about cleaning canvas, and I thought it was a valid question. He thinks it may be a stupid question, but I don't. "This may be a stupid question - but how do you actually clean the top. Mine is in a slip - do you leave the top on and wash it...

    Reinforcing a floor panel

My floor panel/fuel tank access panel is weak. I'm going to be taking the panel off tonight, and I have some plywood to attach to it. Question is, what's the best method to attach it, and does it need to be painted? I think the absolute best way to put it on there is to glass it in, but that's...

    Mercruiser 488

Just bought an 84 SportCraft 22' with a Mercruiser 488 188hp I/O. Just did a quick search on here, and nothing came up for the 488. Anyone know much about this motor? It's my first I/O, and would like to know as much about it as possible. I see many Mercs referred to as Fords, and the ci (302...

Bought me a new boat! - More pics

So wife and I decided to go ahead and get something more family & fishing friendly then our 16' Bayliner with bad floors. See http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=414586 for some background if you want it. We had a specific max dollar amount, and I would have been happier to stay lower then...

    1991 200hp Johnson

Hey all. I'm in the market for a new (to me) boat, and I found something decent (I think) with a '91 Johnson 200. I don't know which 200, or how many hours, but I'm looking for general feedback and things to look for on these engines. The boat with the motor is $2000, and something in me says...

    Docking/mooring

Need some help figuring out how I should tie off to my dock. I rent a non-floating dock from a private party, and currently use davits for my 16' Bayliner. It works fine, although I must admit, watching your boat hang from a couple of cables can be a little unnerving, especially when it's a...
