    1990 mercruiser 4.3 no spark

Turn distributor while cranking. If backfiring yes timing is wrong reading this wonder if you had a grounding issue on distributor to block . Not sure if third wire off sensor is a ground which would nix my theory… but if clamp is loose …

    07 mercruiser 4.3 no start

Cycle the man overboard switch if it dies when you put key to run it’s loosing ignition this way. found that out the hard way … when starter is running ignition is powered via starter I think, when you turn key to run if man overboard is tripped there is no longer 12 v going to positive side of...

that is it if you click on the pic of this intake manifold off a 165 (just swagging the engine has to be a 3.0 or 165 st 6 by pic) you will see the tube you mention https://www.marineengine.com/newparts/part_details.php?pnum=MER58759A13 if you can find a welch plug like used in carbs that...

Rebuild my choke to Electric. What with the "holes"

whats the serial number on the engine you are working on? this will help see in parts diagrams what should be there Usually the hot air style chokes had a tube inside to heat the air to the choke from the exhaust gases. On an old V8 this would be in the exhaust crossover in the intake. The...

Loose battery cables or dead battery. Man overboard switch ? Heavy throttle - is the float bowl overflowing flooding the engine ? opening throttle wide is the way to clear a flooded engine.

    Idle setting Mercruiser 165HP

correct. when adjusting it get the rpms right then adjust the mixture. One screw at a time, go in to lean it (slowly give engine time to react) until it stumbles, then richen it up until it stumbles. Usually in between is considered best idle. then you may have to readjust the idle speed...

Cold Starting RPM: What is normal?

when adjusting idle speed take the throttle cable off the carb . Adjust the idle speed. When you reattach the throttle cable adjust so it fits on where the idle screw stops the throttle. It should hold the throttle against the idle speed screw

Cold Starting RPM: What is normal?

Do your final adjustments on the water and in gear . I think you’ll find that 800-900 rpm is a tad high to get in and out of gear easily

Help me set up my new edelbrock 1409

I think from your earlier thread you have a TBV verify with first pic igntion module and probably knock module piggybacked to dist pages may be out of order but one of them has timing tune up instructions . get a factory manual as Mike said water will continue to come out (Especially if hose...

    Manifold Change

You are right to change them and zero the milage given salt water use. 5-7 years change out is norm, if it leaks water into exhaust easy way to loose an engine . would look for signs of water intrusion into exhaust and exhaust ports on head. Check the exhaust flappers in top of wye pipe.

Mercruiser 3.0L LX Alpha One - Oil Leak

it could be the gasket, the crank seal, or a corroded timing cover. You might be able to take the pulley off the crank to get a better look. You probably could do the oil pan in the hull, depending on what your engine cowl/doghouse looks like. Except for lifting device, it is really easy to...

    470 overheating

You could pressure test the cooling system with an automotive style cooling system pressure tester. The antifreeze side of you engines should hold pressure. Those engines are known for the cam driven water pump to leak AF sometimes into the oil

Help me set up my new edelbrock 1409

probably easier to snake one exhaust hose below the floor than 2 summit racing has wedges as you dont want to price the OEM one .. you can probably get studs at a local auto parts store, or old time hardware store . I think they are 5/16 coarse. Might be worth cutting down what you have until...
