    Intermittent Start - Starflite 75

Are you saying you’ve used the carbon core wires or are you referencing the set of wires I sent in the link?

    Intermittent Start - Starflite 75

Would you happen to know a good source for these? I found these that look like they’d work, I guess I can deal with the blue clashing with my fire engine red block haha. https://www.wholesalemarine.com/sierra-18-5229-9-1-wiring-plug-set/

    Intermittent Start - Starflite 75

I’ll check tomorrow. My spark plug wires aren’t solid core and are the carbon core type which were fabricobbled together last year from some I had lying around from another project. I was able to remove the screw terminals from the old chewed up original spark plug wires and re crimp them onto...

    Intermittent Start - Starflite 75

If I followed the manual right the timing should be right, flywheel boss aligned with boss on the top of the powerhead where the water cover is, then the notch on the distributor pulley aligned with the mark on the unit that holds the distributor. I couldn’t find any info about it anywhere but I...

I feel like I tried every throttle position when attempting to start it.

    Intermittent Start - Starflite 75

Evening all, I am at the end of my line here. My 1961 Starflite 3 75HP (with unicharger) has been having some issues getting started and running well. It was a boat anchor when I got it from some ol' boys' barn last summer and ended up tearing it all the way down to the powerhead for the next...

    MO no title registration

Evening all. Recently I picked up a 1963 Glaspar Avalon with a 61’ starflite 3 75 horse on the back of it. I paid 200 dollars cash from a Facebook marketplace deal and only received a bill of sale from the seller who I believe was the grandson of the deceased original owner. The original plan...

Impact gun on flywheel nut and puller?

God bless you for this reply. Working on an old starflite 75 horse and could not for the life of me find a way to hold the flywheel in place. All I had was an old towel so I ripped that up and did what you did and it worked like charm. Glad I came across this thread I would’ve never thought of...

Hard to turn crank on 61’ starflite 3 75hp

Done and done. Got the power head benched. Unfortunately the general service manual for these engines in the fiberglassics library seems to be missing page 68 where I assume information about the power head and refurb / teardown procedures are.

Hard to turn crank on 61’ starflite 3 75hp

Is this the part where it splits from the intake section of the block? Or should I disconnect everything and lift the whole thing off.

Hard to turn crank on 61’ starflite 3 75hp

Hello people of iBoats. I have started a new thread on an issue I’m dealing with because it has evolved past what I originally thought the problem was and is no longer relevant to the initial thread. I am working on an old starflite 3, 75 horse that is currently not running. It’s most likely...

    Starflite 3 75hp starter issues

Good enough to run at all? Haha. It’s looking like that’s how this is going to go down anyways.

    Starflite 3 75hp starter issues

Pulled the lower unit off today and am still having a problem with the it being hard to turn over. I also went ahead and pulled the heads and am happy to see the cylinder walls look like they’re in pretty good condition and there isn’t any sort of blockage. Took some measurements of the top of...

    Starflite 3 75hp starter issues

I’m new to outboards, and I’m starting off with what seems like ancient tech. Would it be wise to take off the lower unit to rule out any issues with the gearing even if the prop spins freely in both directions and it is in neutral?

    Starflite 3 75hp starter issues

This sounds like a possibility. Maybe there’s some buildup I can’t see

    Starflite 3 75hp starter issues

Yes, my endoscope camera thing was too large to get inside the cylinders but from what I could see, each piston looked fine albeit with some mystery buildup on top that didn’t really look that concerning. Couldn’t get camera around enough to see the cylinder walls though. I’ll try and get the...

    Starflite 3 75hp starter issues

You would have to ask the mice living inside it… the person who sold it to me couldn’t give me an answer as he “knew nothing about it” but going off the most recent registration it looks like it could’ve been 30 years since it was last moving. I don’t know if this would be indicative of anything...

    Starflite 3 75hp starter issues

I’m having some troubles with my Non running starflite 3 with electric start. When I test the starter off the engine with 12 volts from a marine battery it spins fine and is also able to engage the bendix. However when I have the starter mounted on the engine using the boat’s ignition system...
