Can you rebend a broken recoil spring?

You will need to anneal the end first and then attempt to re-harden and temper it afterwards. If it failing again could put you in any danger dont risk it , buy a new one. Many years ago I "repaired" the spring in a car seat belt for a colleague in this way but he swapped to the passenger side...

Adding charging system to 1997 evinrude 25 hp

It makes no difference. Replacement rectifiers may just have three plain yelllow wires. Yes the red wire is the positive output. The negative is the rectifier case and is grounded to the motor but it makes sense to connect the negative battery wire to one of the regulator fixing screws. BTW...

    Gas Tank Removal 4hp

It holds the recoil starter in position in the cover. Put it back in before you proceed to removing the cover or it will all fall apart and the spring will escape like a caged tiger suddenly being let loose. Hopefully it has not already come free.

    Gas Tank Removal 4hp

As tphoyt says it is a 1979 model. I assume you know not to undo the screw on the top of the cover and that it is released by removing two screws, #9, from underneath. The fuel tank is then just held by two retainers, also #9

    Fuel pump for 6hp 6904E

They are all basically the same just assembled differently to give different inlet and outlet orientations ( Although you will obviously need longer fixing screws) Info on Leroy's ramblings http://www.leeroysramblings.com/Rebuilding_fuelpump.htm If you decide to alter it take very careful note...

    Evinrude 4 HP deluxe

You could investigate the possibility of fitting the tilt lock components from the 6hp model #93, #94, #95, #96 (2 off), #97(2off) Although the port side parts are probably unnecessary

    Evinrude 4 HP deluxe

The Deluxe version does not have these parts. The diagram in Crosbyman's post of the standard 4hp model not the Deluxe version. They are very different. I thought maybe it would have the same tilt support lever as the 6hp model but it does not have that either. There does not seem to be any...

1985 evinrude 8hp impeller removal problem.

The danger is that you can damage the seals (# 27). If you now find signs of water in the oil you may have done that.

    2001 Evinrude 6hp four stroke model E6R4SIE

The Operators guide is available from Outboardbooks.com https://www.outboardbooks.com/manual/E6R4SIE/Evinrude/ But go back to your dealer and kick him first. You should not have to pay $25 to buy one

    8hp Problems...HELP

As suggested replace the fuel hose female end connector but use a genuine Evinrude part. Inspect the male part but unless obviously damaged it is not likely to be defective. The water pump must be well submerged when testing in a tank. You know where it is! No priming is necessary, or even...

    Assistance with 1984 8HP Evinrude

I have the 6 hp version of the same engine. Exactly the same as far as the gears and shifting are concerned. Look at the cam #29 in the first diagram below Also the bevel gears which link the shift handle with the shift rod. (# 10 and #78 in the second diagram). I am wondering if they have...

    Lower Unit Pressure Test

As Racerone says replace the driveshaft seal below the water pump. ( only one seal, but a double lipped one according to the parts diagram) # 36 in the attached diagram. Also replace the housing O ring ( #34) Also consider replacing the shift rod O ring seal. #45 in this second diagram. Also...

    1981 Johnson 115 voltage regulator

I think you will find that model has a separate rectifier and regulator. If without power tilt and trim in has a 6 amp stator and a simple ( round, 3 wire ) rectifier to convert AC to DC for battery charging. If with power tilt and trim it has a more powerful (10 amp) stator and a regulator in...

Does this indicate water in lower unit oil?

Be sure there is not still an old, damaged sealing washer in the hole. Most drain plugs use the flat plastic washers but a few use an O ring. Look at the underside of the screw head. If it is flat it should have a flat washer. If it has a recess it should use an O ring. If you fit a flat...

    Rope Starter Eyelet 6/8hp.

It is just fitted through two small holes either side of the eyelet. In my Yachtwin they are level with the eyelet but if I was drilling holes for it I would position it slightly lower than it is. Sorry not sufficiently accessible at the moment to photograph

If you also tend to pull the rope upwards it might be worth fitting the rope guide that is fitted as standard to the Sailmaster and Yachtwin models

    Lower unit oil

Sometimes you will come across drain/ level screws with O ring seals but the screws for them are different. If there is a recess on the underside of the head O rings are correct. If the underside of the head is flat the flat plastic ( nylon??) washers are correct. If you use O rings on the...

    Lower unit oil

The oil should remain "clear and bright" but perhaps just a little darker in color. If it is turbid or milky looking it indicates water is getting in It took a long while to drain because it was cold ......... warm it up a bit and it will drain faster. Warm the new oil before filling too and...
