    1972 Checkmate MX-15 Rebuild

Let me know how this stuff works out for you. I have a HUGE area of 5200 I have to remove on that 270 I'm rebuilding. The previous guys needed the entire toilet wast tank in some weird concoction of foam and 5200. Lol

    1987 Starcraft Islander Restoration

Looking good man. Moving right along on that rebuild. I wish my resto was an aluminum hull like the Islanders! That'd take a whole load off my plate, lol.

1981 Sportcraft 270 repair underway - transom, stringers, & repower

Patched the little slice in the boat bottom using OOPS! method of v-notching and using his structural PB formula. But, I still put on 3 layers of 1708 thereafter jusssst to be safe. Started small, and went a 1/4" bigger on each layer using ISO resin. Transom core is now installed too! Mixed up...

1981 Sportcraft 270 repair underway - transom, stringers, & repower

Thanks man, I'm trying. Definitely probably some room for improvement. But, I'm getting the hang of the mixtures now. I forgot to round over my corners on the core, so when doing the edges this heavy CSM was giving me issues of air pockets here and there. Then I realized that they sent me 7oz...

1981 Sportcraft 270 repair underway - transom, stringers, & repower

The main ones you're gonna hear or see used: - CSM/Mat - 1708 - Woven/Roven/Roving/Quilt - Cloth (sometimes referring to 1708, sometimes referring to woven roving by others) - MEK or MEKP (some will refer to it as hardener/ catalyst, accelerator, etc) - Peanut Butter/PB (thickened resin)...

๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I'm gonna have to say use that, except I'll say it's my dogs. (I raise and train K9s for a living, and have around 12 dogs here at any given time. Lol)

1981 Sportcraft 270 repair underway - transom, stringers, & repower

That's what I did actually. I put 3 layers of neat resin (two days apart on each side) and let harden. Then I wiped with acetone the next day, and laid the 1708... What I really think it is, was the insane humidity we had here yesterday! Because today I did the two layers of CSM on the other...

1981 Sportcraft 270 repair underway - transom, stringers, & repower

Got two layers of CSM put down on the back side of the core. Now onto the edges, and my encapsulating will be done!

1981 Sportcraft 270 repair underway - transom, stringers, & repower

1708 = 17ounce Biaxial woven cloth, w/8oz CSM on the back side. (You will also see others like 1808, 1908, and virtually every other size and combo you could think of or order. 1708 just seems to be the most popular as it provides a great middle ground of the strength needed VS added weight to...

1981 Sportcraft 270 repair underway - transom, stringers, & repower

Whew!!! That's a relief. I thought I did something really wrong or something lol. I guess from videos and pictures online it looks SUUUPER clear everywhere with not a single micro-blemish to be found. I guess the cameras aren't usually only an inch away from the glass either typically. Lol The...

1981 Sportcraft 270 repair underway - transom, stringers, & repower

Welp, just put our first layer of 1708 on the core, and it went pretty good. Used about 6pints of ISO resin. It was looking good, but I got some of these little micro air bubble things here and there randomly throughout the first layer and not sure if that's normal or not. Or if I didn't use...

1981 Sportcraft 270 repair underway - transom, stringers, & repower

You ain't lyin'! The transom core I just did soaked up TONS of resin when I did the pre-wetting. So, wetting everything out generously is definitely a must prior to everything else.

1981 Sportcraft 270 repair underway - transom, stringers, & repower

On a side note. I traced and cut out my transom core. Wetted out both sides, now just need to pre-wet the edges and then encapsulate it all. I'm going with 2 layers of CSM on back and around all edges, and one 1708 layer on the front, then all tabbed in of course. Transom core cut to shape...

1981 Sportcraft 270 repair underway - transom, stringers, & repower

Ok, got it. Put tape on bottom of hull to create a backing. Then make up some HPB and fill the little slit until level inside the hull. Then, 2 layers of 1708 on top. First layer 3" around the cut, second layer 6" around the cut. Then transom can go in and all the rest of HPB can go in around...

1981 Sportcraft 270 repair underway - transom, stringers, & repower

Ok, kinda what I was thinking. Should I grind it all even and tapered about 12" area around it, then laminate in 5 or 6 layers to give strength back to that area? Or, just add a couple patch tabs of 1708 over the top of it (inside the boat) and sand a little underneath (outside the boat) and...

1981 Sportcraft 270 repair underway - transom, stringers, & repower

I accidentally cut a slit into the bottom of my hull while removing all this old resin chunks... How do I go about patching this? Or, is it so small, just filling with peanut butter. will be good enough because the transom is moving in right on top of it?

1981 Sportcraft 270 repair underway - transom, stringers, & repower

I'm stenciling the transom right now using popsicle sticks and hot glue. Working pretty good so far. Then that hilarious picture got put up and stopped me in my tracks a good 10mins. Lol
