Removed old transducer.....water problem?

Removed old transducer today. When I removed one of the screws a stream of clear water came out of the hole. I am suspecting whoever installed this transducer he must have drilled right through the transom and, thw water that came out was from inside the boat. Plan is to sand off the bottom...

    Raw Water Pump Impeller

How often (if at all) does the Raw Water Pump Impeller need to be replaced? The pump I am referring to is the one located on the engine.....not the O/D. I have not seen much talk about this............just wondering as far as PM............not experiencing any problems.

    Filling in Holes in Transom

I know this has been discussed before but................ I am going to be replacing my depthfinder and when I remove the existing transducer I want to fill in the holes properly. Is MarineTex a good candidate? If not, what does everyone recommend?

    West Marine On & Off

If anyone is interested in a good product to get the brown stain off above the water line, try On & Off at West Marine. This is the first time I used it and it worked great. Just sprayed it on and then used the power washer............

    Exhaust Riser Life Span

What is the life expectancy of the exhaust risers? My manifolds are FWC'd................just wondering how long the risers last. Do they last longer than the raw water cooled manifolds? Can I get an idea of their health from by removing the boot and looking at the "output" of the riser? Is...

    WOT Back to Normal

Just wanted to let you guys know that my WOT is back to normal after replacing the lifter. After a careful inspection I found the pieces of the retaining clip and the disc that goes under the cup that holds the push rod. So far so good................just relieved.

IT'S BACK!!! Added pic of lifter!!!!

Tha same problem I had last year is back. While returning from a fishing trip this morning........the engine sputtered momenterily while deccelerating. My son and I looked at eachother in disbelief. I slowed down to an idle, seemed fine, temp, oil gauges, etc, all ok. Throttled back up and sure...

    Trim Tab Wiring

The trim tabs (Bennet) on my boat are wired backwards. The left button operates the port tab (controling the starbord bow) and vica versa for the right button. Does anyone have a wiring diagram (including color codes) so I can determine if the wiring is wrong or maybe the hydraulic lines are...

    Exhaust Flappers

I have been hearing a noise towards the rear of my engine. In the past I only heard it sometimes when I first started it or/and at low RPM's intermitently. When I started it last night it was more consistent, still only at idle and at low RPM's (no wake zone speed). As soon as I give it some...

    VHF Transmission Distance

How far can a VHF radio transmit? I was ~ 20mi offshore last w/e. I asked for a radio check on Ch 16 to see if I could reach the Coast Guard.......no replay. I could hear them.............didn't seem like they could hear me. I was communicating with other boats in the area so I know the radio...

    Reliability

I believe the key word in a marine word is reliability! Today I ventured ~20mi offshore in my 24' Grady. I am by nature a very cautious person. It has taken me quite sometime to do this, especially since I had the engine out of this boat and taken apart in my driveway last fall. As some of you...

    Prop Slip

Using an online prop calculator, I calculated my prop slip at ~0.22 using 3600 RPM @ 30MPH with a 1.5:1 ratio. Does this seem correct for my 24' Grady? What exactly does this number indicate? Is the lower the number better? If so, how can it be improved?

    Garmin 192C Sounder Conversion

Last winter I installed a Garmin 192C Chartplotter. I am considering adding a Garmin GSD-21 and a transducer to convert the chartplotter to a sounder. The cost will be ~$250-500 depending on which transducer I choose (the thru hull transducers are very $$$). Has anyone done this conversion...

    Fuel Gauge Bounces

Last season my fuel gauge seemed to fluctuate too much so I replaced the sender in the spring prior to launch.

Didn't seem to help much. Could it be the gauge itself? Can I add some capacitance to the gauge to reduce the "ringing"?

    Fuel Consumption

Preparing to venture offshore with my 350 Vortec....

Have never calculated (or really even noticed) the fuel consumtion of my rig. Honestly, up to this point, haven't had the need to!

Anyway, does anyone have an educated estimate of much fuel I might burn at let's say...

    Tuning the Vortec

    Went out fishing today.

Boat ran fine with the 17" prop and seemed to accelerate better (smoother) with the stronger springs in the carb.

WOT was at ~4400 with 3 adults and some fishing gear.....water wasn't flat either.

I like the 17" prop better than the...
