    Merc 4 stroke sank

Have you removed the spark plugs and rolled the engine over and slowly by hand. That will push the water out if it is hydraulically locked up. The engine should roll over unless the gear shifter is in forward or reverse engaging the safety lock. Gear shifter and linkages need to be in neutral...

    36 tournament / Cummins 555 VT

Saw this and copied it from Downeast Boat Forum "First thing, is the boat loaded the way it normally would be when you took these RPM readings (full fuel, gear, four fat guys, ect)? Or was it lightly loaded? Wide open throttle readings should always be taken under normal/worst case load. Next...

Whats the engines full Rpm at no load (out off gear) and the engines full Rpm in gear wide open? Both engines have same WOT? What does it cruise at X mph or knots? How fast is it at full throttle? Cheap easy test and checks, beginning of a good baseline before hauling the boat. Take a mechanic...

Can skeg damage cause vibration/noise on plane?

I worked for a marine contractor for several years. We ran only aluminum props on the outboard powered work boats and I/O boat because the props were sacrificical to protect the prop shaft and bearings. Can skeg damage cause vibration/noise on plane?

Props can have more damage then can be seen by eye. If you have a spare prop/get your prop reconditioned and try that before hauling for the winter. Cheap test and may give peace of mind?

Trying to determine proper engine/ trans/ prop pairing

You have: Tested speed of 17 mph at 3000 rpm Reported boat cruises at 18 mph and tops out at 23 5.7 MPI Engine mfg spec 4800-5200 rpm Recommend “upper end of the WOT RPM window for a carbureted SBC or BBC, that is in the 4600-4800RPM range.” So you have unknown potential for mph from 3,000rpm...

Trying to determine proper engine/ trans/ prop pairing

What is the factory approved full RPM for that engines? You should do another sea trial and confirm for your self it does “boat cruises at 18 mph and tops out at 23.” and the engines reach full rated RPM. This would give you a clearer idea of the engine and prop pairing. Couple hundred bucks...
