    when I do the carbs I would like to check out the reed valves and see the condition. What should I look for?? Anything the manual doesn't cover?? What about tolerances?? Any tell tale signs of problems that I should look for while in there?? Also if I need to change...for bass boat...

    Bad cough/ miss at idle.

    1978 140hp Johnson. 100psi compression all the way around. New stator, trigger, powerpacks, rectifier, plugs. Old green coils. She runs great when you "run" her. At idle is the problem...sometimes she does it sometimes she doesn't. There is a bad cough that comes and goes. To the point...

    air silencers...??

    I have a 78 johnson 140...I have read dhadley stating not to run it without the air box...I understand this and I wouldn't think about it...my motor is missing the black air silencers and wondered if it would hurt running it without them...I don't see where it would change the anount of air...

    okay my 78 johnson 140 has conventional plugs...my new OMC manual I got says it should have air gap plugs. What are you guys running and what do you prefer? I figure a hotter spark or at least a bigger spark out of the air gap...thats what I'm running in my 1150 merc and have had good luck...
