    Oil Bath verses grease

What is the general consensus on the 'oil bath bearing lubrication system' compared to the grease method for wheel bearings? I've been reading about this oil method and it sounds like it just might be the better way to go. But, I'd like to hear some opinions from experience. Are there different...

    Is this wearing properly?

If not, what might be my problem. This is off the right rear of the brakes I had that were over heating. The outside disc is half gone and the inner one doesn't show much of any wear???? Crappier material on the outside?? You wouldn't think. Again, this is no more than 2000 miles on it.

    Trailer brakes not always releasing

The trailer is under an approximately 5500 lb. boat. The axles are three years old and have disc brakes. They have about 2000 miles on them. When returning from the coast last weekend, we found them really hot at our stop. So hot that the grease was squirting out the rubber caps for greasing the...

    Proper Thermostat

I have a 23 ft. Cruiser with a 350 Chevy/Mercruiser I/O. The motor was new about 6 years ago and while warming it up it generally bumps on 200 on the gage before opening up. We are also running a heat exchanger with this. Seems a little hot to me (could be the gage) for opening, but thought I'd...

    Over Heating Alarm

Was just out fishing and broke a fan belt, but hadn't noticed due to lots of commotion in the boat. It got fairly hot but recovered fine. My question is, do they have a decent over heating alarm out there that does it's job well? My gage works fine, but you're not always paying attention to it...

8 hp Yamaha low speed problem

A friend has a 3-4 year old 8 hp Yamaha 4 stroke that won't run at a trolling speed of about 2 mph. It'll do fine at idle and if you pass the 2 mph it's fine too. What's should we be checking out here? Thanks

    Can't grease the zerks

I have a 2007 Yamaha 9.9 high thrust and was trying to grease it, but it won't take the grease. Ive taken the zerks out and put them in the gun and grease goes through them. I've tried two different guns, the same results. This motor has very few hours on it, maybe 40. What are my options???? It...

    Correct spark plugs

I have a 22 ft. 1978 Cruiser with a 350 Chevy/Mercruiser outdrive setup. Every time I go in to buy plugs, they recommend a different set. ACDelco R45TS, Autolite 25, Autolite 145 etc. This boat is roughly 5500 lbs. It has distributor with points and a Rochester Quadrajet carb. The engine was new...

    Micrologic Manual

I've inherited my friends boat after he died and the GPS unit which he always operated is a Micrologic ML-150. Does anyone know where I can get an operators manual for this unit?

    Installing reverse lock out

We're about to install one of these critters and was wondering how far behind the master cylinder it should be or does it make any difference? It's an Atwood 12 volt setup.

    Merc cooling system part

We're replacing the cooling water supply pipe through the stern on an 78 Merc 350 GM setup. Where the 1/2 inch pipe comes through the transom into the boat, it connects to an 1 1/4 radiator type hose via a rubber shim that's 1/2 in. ID and 1 1/4 OD and about an 1 1/2 long. We need one that has a...

    Cleaning risers

Having run our boat (Mercruiser 350) in the salt 95% of the time we started removing and cleaning the risers every year. We've been scrapping and soaking them in muriatic acid then rinsing. It's a pain but it does the trick. For those that frequent the salt, how are you dealing with this...

    Stainless Manifold/Riser

Is this available for the 350 Merc setup? I've seen one on the web that's made in Australia but it's one piece and looks reeeeeally expensive. I realize they'll be pricey but we do have our limits. :)

    Over heating problem

On a 2005 Merc, 25 HP, I got into some weeds and cut down on the water at the telltale. I've inspected the pump housing and impeller. I've had the exhaust manifold off, blew air in all the waterways. Had the head cover off and all is clean as a whistle. Yet, when I run it, the top cylinder runs...

    Lack of water at telltale

It's a 2005 Merc 25 hp 2 stroke. I got into some weedy water and the water at the telltale cut way down. I pulled the lower unit, went through the water pump, blew air up the tube to the motor and even took the thermostat out but there was nothing anywhere to be found. I put it back together and...

    Boat won't steer straight

It's a 22 ft. 78 Cruiser with 260 Mercruiser. When coming in and out of the harbor at 10 mph or less, it will not stay on a straight course. You're constantly turning the wheel to one side or the other. A real pain in the butt. People think you're drinking or something. Any ideas?

    Mercruiser Wiring Diagram

We have a 1978 Cruiser that has the 260 (350 Chevy) with the serial # 5079900. Where could I get the wiring diagram for this motor/boat? Also, when the ignition is on and the points are closed, there's a heavy red wire from the battery to the solenoid behind the motor that has a doubled up...
