New(ish) motor is in! - Lifter tick?

Ended up ordering 16 new lifters, pushrods and rockers w/ ball & nut. Was only a bit more than just the lifters purchased locally so I figured what the heck.

New(ish) motor is in! - Lifter tick?

I have 16 others from another motor. Was contemplating doing all 16 with brand new and maybe even push rods for the heck of it but im conflicted. The chances one of my other ones also wont pump up is pretty low hopefully

New(ish) motor is in! - Lifter tick?

Well not sue why i didnt check this last night. Was late and dark i guess. All other lifters are hard as a rock when I push down on the valve and this one is squishy as can be. Stud seems fine with a straight edge. Guess im pulling the intake. :(

New(ish) motor is in! - Lifter tick?

Ok headed out to give this a try. I kind of hope its the stud. Pinning a stud seems a bit easier and cheaper than pulling the intake back off and buying gaskets again.

New(ish) motor is in! - Lifter tick?

Roller. Im pretty sure its getting oil. As it ran I was watching the oil flow/drip down the rocker. Im about to go outside and run it a bit more and double check some things. Possible that the rocker stud is pulling out? or is collapsed lifter a higher probability?

New(ish) motor is in! - Lifter tick?

I took the valve cover off and ran the motor. Found which one it is but when i tighten the rocker down it gets perfectly quiet and then after 30 seconds or so it starts to come back. Did it several times.

New(ish) motor is in! - Lifter tick?

haha basically i didnt mess with the valves, crank, rods or pistons. everything else is either from the previous motor or new. does that sound like a lifter tick to you or something else? Im hoping I just didnt tighten one of the rockers enough. 🤞 maybe i should have rephrased that. "is...

New(ish) motor is in! - Lifter tick?

Whelp got the Silverado Vortec motor in! Started up quickly but I seem to have a tick going on. Sound like a standard lifter tick? Should I pull the rocker cover and adjust while running? Is having a lifter tick semi common after a partial rebuild? Followed all the guides online the best I could.

5.0GXI Initial Timing Setup - Swapped motor.

Hello, Been doing a lot of searching and have the VP shop manual but still feel a bit confused on getting this distributor installed. Some forums say that I need a scan tool to get it right and others seem to just say get it put in correctly and the computer controls the rest of the timing. I...

Might have thrown away my remote oil filter setup....

So....... When draining my old milkshake block I remember placing the remote oil setup on my garbage can to drain the goop out.. Im about 99.9% certain at this point it slowly got covered with oily towels and whatnot and I took it out with yesterdays trash. I had also thrown away the oil...

Engine Swap Over - First Oil Selection

Hello, The motor is coming along nicely. I will be likely putting oil in the block tonight or tomorrow night to do the initial priming. I'd prefer to run volvo penta full synth but I also want to consider the initial 3-5 hours of running a rinse if you will (might even throw some seafoam in...

2005 5.0 GXI and 97 Silverado 5.0 Timing Sets Different

The cam gear actually had the same amount of teeth. Didnt check the crank gear though. Seems to just be a different diameter though. Likely the due to the different style overall. I'll probably just run it with the older setup for now. It would suck but if I had to swap it in the boat for...

2005 5.0 GXI and 97 Silverado 5.0 Timing Sets Different

So since I have so much of this "new" motor torn down from the ole silverado. I decided to just go ahead and swap cams since its about 20 min of work (so far). Anyhow there seems to be a difference in the timing gears and chain between the two motors. The one currently set up on the engine is...

5.0 GXI Stretched Head Bolt - Reuse Head Gasket?

Well I cleaned everything up today and started to torque everything down. Decided to follow the 25lb-45lb-65lb torque method and unfortunately I stretched one of the small bolts when on the 65lb sequence. Glad I could tell it was stretching and didn't snap it. I cheaped out on the head bolts...

    Oil Pickup Tube/Dipstick Fittings

Hello, I'm planning ahead for moving over the volvo oil pan to my other motor. I ended up having to remove this tube assembly due to the motor being filled with water/oil milkshake. The volvo manual recommends replacing some or all of these seals when removed. Going to be $20-30 after shipping...
