    Removing Raymarine Radar Dome

I have to remove my Raymarine Radar Dome from the radar arch to transport my boat on a trailor to another marina. Is there anything special I should know about the wiring before I disconnect it? Thanks

    reparing canvas

The bimini top on my boat has a few pin holesin it from seagulls droping shells on it. I was thinking of making a patch from some matching canvas to cover the holes. Can you patch a canvas bimini? If so what is the best adhesive to use? The fabric is made by Sunbrella. Thanks.

    Vinyl upholstery question

On my boat there is a colored piping that separates the two sections of the seat cushions that make up the back rest. Does anyone know if this is hot glued in place and easily removable? The piping (also called a welt I think) looks to be vinyl as well. I would like to change it to a different...

    installing a circuit breaker

I have installed 120 V ac circuit breakers into my home electrical panel. The breakers clip onto the bus bar and is very easy to do. I need to install a 10 amp 12 v circuit breaker into a blank slot on the electric panel in my boat. Is this similar or very different from a household...

    In hull transducer

The boat I am buying has an old Garmin GPS MAP182 non color chartplotter. There is no depth sounder assocaited with it. I was thinking of replacing it with the Garmin 541S which has the same dimensions as the 182 so it will fit in the same location. I was told that I could avoid drilling another...

    installing remote spotlight

I am going to install a wireless remote spotlight on my boat. Is OK to bring power to the light by splicing into the wiring from the bow lights? This way there will only be power to the light when my running lights are on. Could this overload the circuit? I am not sure how many amps the light...

    u-joint bellows and gimbal bearings

I am going to have my u-joint bellows changed on my alpha 1 gen 2 outdrives. Does it make sense to change the gimbal bearings at that time? How much extra labor time is involved once the bellows have been removed? The actual gimbal bearing cost is minimal. The last time I had this done on my...

    fresh water flush

I just bought a boat that has been used in salt water but has a fresh water engine flush in the cockpit. Was this an option on the 4.3 L 2002 Mercruisers or an after market installation by a previous owner? The boat is a Searay. How effective is flushing the engines with fresh water in terms of...

    2002 Mercruiser 4.3 L ECM

My previous boat had Mercruiser 2004 4.3 L MPI engines. The ECM on that model store information on it to diagnose problems with the engines when hooked up to a computer. Does anyone know if the ECM of the 2002 model year of that same engine has the same capability. Thanks

    Mercruiser 8.1 L

I'm considering buying a boat with twin Mercruisers 8.1 Litre with Vee drives. One of the engines had to be replaced after 400 hours. The other is still running with 420 hours on it. I've heard these engines have been problematic. Does anyone have any experience with these engines?

    thermostat gasket adhesive

The MerCruiser service manual for my 4.3L MPIs states that a gasket adhesive should not cover the continuity rivets on the gasket or else it will intefere with the overheat alarm. Does this mean to put the gasket without any adhesive or just avoid adhesive near the rivets?

    changing thermostat

When replacing the hoses that go to the thermostat housing, is there any special sealant needed or is just putting back the ring clamps sufficient? Thanks

    engine overheat

I was cruising along at 4000 RPM when I glanced down at my guages. To my surprise my port engine was reading over 200 degrees F. I did not hear any alarm and was surprised the engine guardian system didn't shut the engine down. I shut it down immediately and was able to limp back to my marina on...

    crankcase ventilation hose

I am cleaning the flame arrestors on my 4.3 L MPI MerCruisers. The boat is a 2004. The Mercruiser manual that came with the boat indicated that the crankase ventilation hose shoud be removed from the flame arrestors when taking them off. There were no fittings on my flame arrestors to attach...

    shift anticipation mode connector

I have 4.3 L MPI MerCruisers on my boat with Alpha 1 drives. My engines sometimes stall when in neutral. This is not related to shifting the gears. The engines were just tuned with new caps, rotors, plugs. Fuel separators are new. Someone suggested disconnecting the shift anticipation mode...

    Smoke under swim platform

After coming off of plane and placing the boat in neutral, I noticed exhaust smoke coming from under my swim platform. I checked my guages and the engine temps were OK as was the oil pressure. The only thing I noticed was that I still had my sterndrives trimmed out because I forgot to trim them...

    Fireboy-Xintek gas fume detector

I have a Fireboy-Xintex gas fume detector ( MR1) on my boat. When I press the test button the red light comes on but there is no audible alarm. Shouldn't the alarm sound when I press the test button? If so, how do I get it to work properly?

    pegged tach

One of my tachs is pegged at 7000 rpm. As soon as I turn on the engine it goes right to 7000 rpm and doesn't move. Is there anything I can check to see if it will work? This is dual tach. The port side is pegged but the starboard side is OK.
