    70hp 1989 loss of power

Running a 1989 70 hp after running WOT for a while I started to lose power to 3000-3500 rmp max. Shut it down and restarted and ran fine, after a while it did it again, push the choke and it lifts the rpms. Any suggestions? New fuel lines and filter. Also hesitates when going from idle to WOT.

    Warning Horn Connection

I trying find out what wires should be attached to a warning horn on a 1989 Mercury 70 hp motor. I believe the horn was under the dash on the previous boat, and was cut off when the controls were removed. What wires should I be connecting? I have the book and it doesn't say anywhere.

    Tach Question

I purchased a tach from a marine dealer in town and went to install in my dash and I have one problem. The selector on the back only lets me chose 4cyl, 6cyl, or 8cyl. The more I thought about it the range is only to 6000 rpm which would be for a inboard engine. Will this tach work on my...

    Trim Motor Replacement

I have a bad trim motor on my 1989 70hp Mercury. It looks like the oil seal went out and pump fluid into the motor. I took it out and the pump seems to turn fine. Is it best to replace the whole pump and motor, or can I replace just the motor? I believe the part number is 99186T square...

    70 hp Mercury Prop

I have a 16' Aluminum boat with finished interior that I have been working on and bought a 89 70hp mercury off a pontoon to put on it. I believe the prop is 13" and 12 pitch SS. I am thinking the pitch is going to be too low for this boat. I don't have tach on the boat to test the RPM, but am...

    1989 70hp Mercury ignition

I bought a '89 Mercury 70hp engine that has been sitting for 2 years. When I got it hooked up the engine will crank, but I have no spark on any of the cylinders. Then I started looking around and have a few extra wires that look like they would go to a warning horn and maybe a tilt/trim gauge...

1989 70 hp Mercury Lower Unit

I recently came across a 1989 70 hp Mercury engine serial OC137125. The motor was on it's side when I got it, and looked as if some of the lower unit fluid had leaked out around the water pump area. I got it upright and there was no fluid in the lower unit. The plug did have a very small...

    89 35 hp

I have a 35 hp 1989 Force that looks like it has the wrong selenoid. It is 4 poles like it should be. Is there more than one way to wire it? It is getting power from the yellow wire like it should, and doesn't even click. Does anyone have the part number for it? Also needing part number for...
