2000 Johnson 50 hp engine surging

Problem solved! I replaced the fuel line with 3/8" hose from an auto parts house. It is the standard black type of hose. I also replaced the primer bulb and hose to engine connector. I have took it out twice in the last two days and I am having no power problems.

2000 Johnson 50 hp engine surging

I agree. I changed the fuel lines and I wanted to make sure I didn't have any leaks and I also wanted to see if I had a firing problem. That's why I was saying that I didn't know how it would hold up under a load on the lake. I'm just praying my problem is solved...lol

OK. I changed out my fuel line and found "A" problem. I don't know if it is "THE" problem, but regardless, I found that part of my fuel line had separated on the inside. I will get on my phone in a few minutes and see if I can post a picture of it. I started it in the driveway and it seems to be...

2000 Johnson 50 hp engine surging

Duh..... I feel stupid! lol. The sad part is, I have worked on old school cars for years. Why didn't I think of that. I tend to overcomplicate things... Thank you so much for the lesson in common sense. I will probably need a lot more of these lessons before I get this boat running! lol PS...

2000 Johnson 50 hp engine surging

No video. When I get the chance to take it back out, I will video the surging and get it posted on here. I'm in north Texas. Here lately, it is either raining or the wind is blowing 90 to nothing....Today we are getting 39 mph gust... Fuel delivery and intermittent spark... How can I check for...

2000 Johnson 50 hp engine surging

Model # J50PLSSM. 2 stroke. I have not checked the gear oil, but I will. I'm really leaning towards it being a fuel problem because it seems like if it was the gearcase, it would be a consistant problem. That being said, stranger things have happened...

2000 Johnson 50 hp engine surging

I'm back again begging for you guys to help me. My engine inconsistantly surges. Today I took it out and drove it for a few hours. It ran great through most of the day. Then for no apparent reason while opening up the throttle, it started surging and bucking. Letting off of the throttle to about...

2000 johnson 50 hp fuel pump issues

A big thanks to you guys for chiming in. It is now running awesome sitting in the driveway. Hopefully I will be able to get it out to a lake this week for a real test. Here lately in this part of Texas the wind is blowing 35 mph or it is pouring down rain. Texas! Gotta love it.... Thanks again...

When you say remove the pulse limiter and plug the hole, are you referring to the old hose that went to the VRO pump? Thank you very much!

2000 johnson 50 hp fuel pump issues

My model number is J50PLSSM My VRO unit has bit the dust. It started surging really bad going across the water. I pulled the cover and noticed that gas is leaking out of it. I was planning on replacing the VRO with a fuel pump and mixing my own gas anyway, so now would be the ideal time. Pulling...

2000 50 hp tilt cylinder cap removal

I posted pictures just in case any of you are interested. I know it's not pretty, but I didn't want to wait three days for a tool to come in. It took about an hour to throw together. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

2000 50 hp tilt cylinder cap removal

Got it! I actually made a spanner out of 1/4" x 2" flat bar that was about 20" long. I took measurements of the cap pin holes, the piston was just a hair over 5/8" in diameter so I cut a slot to allow for that and it came off pretty easy... I say that... It was in a vise and I had the 20" of...
