Dual Binnacle controls for a Mercury/Yamaha combo

I have a 9.9 Yamaha kicker, and a Mercury 150HP main outboard. I'd like to put a dual binnacle control on the console, but how do I hook Yamaha and Merc shift/throttle cables to one? Which dual control box is easiest to do it with? thanks

Can a rookie do a rebuild on a powerhead?

I'm thinking of picking up a project Merc 150HP, with one blown piston and scored cylinder. Everything else looks good, but am wondering if a "rookie" (never rebuilt an outboard before, but have done mota's on dirtbike 2-strokes, small block Chevy's, etc.), and if it's over my head to do one...

    1999 Evinrude 4 stroke 9.9 Powerpack

I am looking at an Evinrude 9.9 (E10EL4EEB) that has no spark. It seems like finding the Powerpack (P/N 0586505) or (0586650) is extremely difficult and pricey, at best. Any chance no spark could be other problem (stator already replaced). Anyone else had sudden failure of the powerpack? thanks

Non-electical but tilts up, then won't come down

The tilt/trim motor runs, but the motor will not come down from full up position, unless I open the manual bleed screw a few turns, and let it come down an inch or two; then the tilt works okay. I don't know if I have air in the system, but the full up positon causes me to have to bleed...

    Paint recommendations ?

I previously posted about my tale of woe trying to paint my boat with one-part polyurethane. (Blue Water Marine Mega-Gloss Polyurethane). I had first tried the roller, then the brush. In the roller case, I had roller marks and lap marks. In the brush case, I had brush marks, and lap marks...

    Hull painting woes

Well, I did all the tedious sanding, cleaning, sanding, wipedowns, etc., then applied the primer (white primer for urethane Megagloss Marine Paint), which is a polyurethane 1 part paint. Had seen good reviews on it, and bought a gallon. After two coats of the primer (sanded with 220 grit...

Water pump and the dreaded spline alignment

I bought the waterpump rebuild kit for my Mariner 135HP 1988 model, and found that I wound up with a handful of spare parts. On dis-assembly, there were only the two gaskets for above and below the faceplate, the faceplate, the water tube guide, and the centrifugal slinger that I replaced. All...

    Outboard Mounting Bolts

I would like to know where to get the 4 1/2" x 1/2" fine-threaded bolts that are used to mount an outboard. I would like to find them locally, and wondered if Fastenal or some such place would have the stainless steel bolts, rather than buy them for 3x the price at a marine dealer. thanks

    Loadrite single axle springs

My boat/trailer are kinda buried in the snow right now, so I thought I'd just ask here, rather than start shoveling to take out the tape measure. I've got a 1980's vintage LoadRite single axle trailer, with a 20' Robalo on it. The axle is 2 3/8" diameter, and I am thinking the leaf spring...

    Block on V-6 2.0L

I have found that the external parts for a Mariner/Mercury 150HP 2.0L powerhead are interchangeable to the 2.0, 2.4, and 2.5 on this forum. My NEW question is: I have a 150HP 1985 block (minus all externals, it's complete minus all externals and is was a carbureated engine). Would this 2.0L...

Crating and shipping a lower unit

Does anyone have a drawing of a simple/inexpensive way to crate and ship a lower unit? I have one to ship, and am hoping to be able to do a ground UPS or FEDEX shipment, not have to strap to a pallet and go through a Freight company. I am guessing the weight in the 70 pound range (it's a 150HP...

Using a 2.0 gear ratio lower unit on a 200HP Mariner

What problem would there be by using a 2.0 lower unit on a 2.4L Mariner 200 (1986) that could not be accomodated for with a prop change to a different pitch? The bad lower unit on it now has a 1.87 ratio, and it seems that going to 2.0 should not be that big a problem. How about DukeDog?

    Mariner Magnum 150 Year ??????

I picked up a nearly complete non-running Mariner Magnum 150 V-6. The Serial Number tag on the trim bracket is A115096. I cannot figure out the year from the charts recommended here on this forum. Maybe I am mis-reading or misunderstanding them, but is this a 1985 Model? Also, is this a 2.0L...

1988 Mariner Marathon 135 Trim Issues

Well, here's another one! I'm trying to find out where to start looking for an annoyance with the trim system on it. Sometimes, the trim will not come all the way in (the motor won't trim in towards the transom completely, to bring the bow down). This causes a difficult time for me to get...

    Hanging from a lifting eye

I broke down and bought a lifting eye for my Mariner 135hp outboard. Seems that's the way to go to take the motor off the transom, instead of some straps and finagling a removal. I also thought of building an outboard stand, to hang it on while it's prepped and painted. My question is: Would...

    Mariner Marathon 135 1988 opinions

I've got a 1988 Mariner 135, which I've had a couple questions posted before on. Is this essentially the same as the Merc 150 2.0 of the same vintage? Can I use rebuilt carbs (WH type) from a 150 without a bunch of changes (jets, etc.)? I've ordered the gaskets to use when I take the carbs...

    1988 Mariner Marathon 135

I've got a 135HP Mariner O/B, V-6, that is really cold-blooded. It needs about 10 full minutes to warm up, before you can put it in gear without stalling. My intent is to give it the Seafoam treatment, to clear out carbon, then also change fuel and water separator filters, and see what...

    Time to winterize

It's time here on the North Coast to winterize the boat. I want to Seafoam the engine, but don't know if I should do it NOW, before going into hybernation for the Winter, or wait until Spring, when I would be doing a tuneup anyway. Any suggestions? thanks
