    5.8L OMC surge midrange

New one today. Took her out on Lake Erie. After running at 4000rpm's from Put-in-Bay over to Kelley's Island she started surging at about 2000rpm. Lower than that and she ran rough, above 2000 it seemed OK. That was the hardest and longest run for my boat yet. It was a good 20 minutes...

    Uphosltery quick fix

I have some faded and cracked upholstery I'm planning on having re-done this winter. In the meantime I'd like to cover some of the worst spots. I've done the seats by the enigne compartment and they look OK...better than they did for sure, bit it's obvious I'm not an expert. I have a large...

    Seat question

My rig has those back to back lounger seats. I don't like sitting that low, and with a cuddy I don't think it's safe because I can't see much over the bow. So I end up alternating between standing, kneeling on the seat, and sitting on the seat back. Sitting on the seat back puts me too far...

    unprofessional marine stores

Seems like 2 out of 3 marine stores I've visited lately don't get it or just don't care. Crap scattered everywhere, no selection, really poor customer skills. Had one today where I walked in and started looking around (I need a VHF antenna). No hello or anything...just "what are you looking...

At low speed she wanders back and forth without any steering input. Normal?

    Trailer attention

Finally left my boat at the mooring. First time I've been able to spend any time on just the trailer. Started by trying to replace the torn carpet on the bunks. Of course, the wood was rotted pretty badly so it was off to Lowe's for some pressure treated wood and carpet runner. Not that...

    replacing temp gauge

I have a temp guage that has no numbers...just green, yellow, and red. I'd like to have a better idea of what temp she's actually running. My question is, if I replace the gauge do I need to replace the sending unit as well?

    Trimming questions

My trim on my rig has little or no effect while I'm on plane. Changing the trim setting might bring the bow up 5-7 degrees before performance begins to fall off. Other than getting the leg out of the way for trailering or in the shallows what is the real purpose? Why would I want to trim up?

    How to measure wheel size?

Need a spare for my rig. How do I measure the bolt pattern so I can get a new rim? It's a Continental tandem axle with a 5 bolt rim.

    Hailing a marina

What is the proper etiquite? Planning a trip to the Lake Erie Islands. Is it as simple as saying "I'm here, where do you want me to dock?" or is there more to it?

    your wish list

Tell us your top 3...only rule is it has to be an upgrade to your current rig...not a brand new (insert disgustingly expensive boat here). Mine is pretty boring but I just started... 1. Full cover 2. GPS 3. Helm chair Let's hear 'em

    Swim ladder sux

My swim ladder sux! It's not an aftermarket platform, just the platform on the back. Stows away underneath. It's way too short to be useful. Anyone have any suggestions on how to change it?

    Maneuvering around the slips

Much is said here about launching and retrieving but not much about slow speed maneuvers is the docking area. We rented a slip for the remainder of the season here in Ohio. Spent some time practicing slow maneuvering in and around the mooring slips and I have to admit it was stressful. I am...

    The longest you've gone...

without a major repair bill? I'm new to this thing and I've always heard horror stories. You know, a hole in the water in which you throw money...Break Out Another Thousand. I'm wondering if there are actually boat owners who don't end up doing major repairs. Reading this forum it appears...

    Exhaust belllows...can it wait?

91 CC Conquest 228 5.8L OMC Cobra Just noticed tonight that my exhaust bellows is toasted. The other 2 look OK. Not getting any water in the boat. I plan on having them all replaced during the off season. I know a bad Ex Bellow can indicate poor maintenance habits byt the previous owner...

    Should I have stopped?

On the way to the lake last week. Got caught out in the passing lane on a steep grade (I know...I shouldn't have tried it). Anyways, a fellow boater was behind me pulling his fishing rig. He was obviously not happy having to wait on me. 2 minutes later, after giving me the evil eye...

Fenders and hangers suggestions. I don't want a permanent mount and I can use a rail clip for the front but what about the back?

    This is gonna sound stupid...

but I have been through the manual a bunch of times. '91 CC Concept 228 351 OMC Cobra There is a grease fitting on the right side of the upper as you're looking towards the bow, up close towards the transom about half way down the case. I can't find anywhere in the manual that says what this...

    What would you do?

Considering mooring the boat at a marina about an hour away. No electric hook-ups available. I will install a float switch for the bilge but without electricity to power a trickle charger I'm afraid the bilge will run down the battery...and if the battery runs down...well, you get the rest...
