1966 Johnson 6hp magneto timing issues

I also thought the the time in which the points opened was the time that the spark would be sent to the plugs and thus, the time that the plugs would spark is directly corelated to the time that the points opened. but now that I think about it I'm understanding what you're saying with the...

1966 Johnson 6hp magneto timing issues

the slow speed needle is all intact and is not blunt at the point. when talking about the linkage are you referring to the rotation of the armature plate? I don't have the exact number of the compression test I did but i do remember it to be within the required ranges for both cylinders. The...

1966 Johnson 6hp magneto timing issues

its not the coils rubbing on the flywheel, ive made sure of that. they are aligned with the plate that it sits on. it makes perfect spark but wont start and when it does runs at only a couple of hundred rpm for a few seconds

1966 Johnson 6hp magneto timing issues

I've restored a 1966 Johnson 6hp, CDL-23E recently and have an issue with the magneto timing. I've replaced almost everything, fuel lines, thermostat, impeller, bar the fuel pump. I have also replaced everything within the magneto, so OEM condensers, points, coils, and 7mm copper core ignition...

1966 johnson 6hp not running on both cylinders and intermittent spark

Yeah I screwed them in and then installed them. They have a connection as they show a resistance from the coil to the end of the plug boot. Yeah I set the points at .20

1966 johnson 6hp not running on both cylinders and intermittent spark

I've restored a 1966 johnson 6hp and had the problem of it only running on one cylinder until after a while the second cylinder kicks in (I'm talking about 30 mins of wot running). This was before I changed any magneto components. I thought it would be somthing in the boot before so I replaced...

1966 johnson 6hp only firing on one cylinder with spark from both plugs

Ok so I've been doing research on what could possibly be going wrong and I read that on the year of the outboard I'm working on the driveshaft didnt have a dowel pin for the lower crank seal. I took off the lower unit and and where the drive shaft goes into the crank seal there are two slots at...

I've always set the idle air mix at 1 and a half turns so I'll set it richer to hopefully see if that helps. Thank you very much for the help.

1966 johnson 6hp only firing on one cylinder with spark from both plugs

Ok so when running on one cylinder the motor will jump every 5 seconds as if the second one is starting but doesn't fully start. It's as if the top cylinder is only getting a small bit of fuel which is confusing as there is only one carburator. I looked at the Reed valves but didn't take off...

1966 johnson 6hp only firing on one cylinder with spark from both plugs

Yeah the I never had a problem with the compression however I'm going to check both cylinders today and im going to switch the coils from the good cylinder to the bad one to see if it makes a difference. Yeah I've made sure I've set the points to 0.20 and that .022 can't pass through at the high...
