    Reverse works, but not Forward

Let's start with the basic info....what kind of motor are we working with here? So, with the motor running, you can put it in reverse and prop spins, but in forward prop does not spin? The spline spins both directions when motor is running and you put it in forward and reverse? If the...

Outdrive Remove in storage or not?

You don't need to. Not sure where you live, but up here in NY where I live, the marina I worked at for years never pulled the lowers when winterizing, unless there was a gear job we were doing on it over the winter. The biggest part of winterizing an I/O is making sure you get the water out...

New to boating, new to Mercruiser 3.0 some questions

As far as a water pump goes, use the serial number from your motor and lookup the required part number. I would use a mercury or quicksilver brand water pump...but you can find others that will fit, like Sierra. The bilge pump is a different story. There will not be a Mercury brand bilge...

    2020 NFL/NCAAF News and Nonsense

The chaos continues. The Pats cancelled practice today because of a new positive COVID test, the day after Cam and Gilmore returned to practice...hmmm? Colts reopening their facility after the 4 tests came back negative...apparently they were false positives?

    Upgrading from a 2-stroke to 4-stroke

I am planning to bite the bullet and upgrade our 2001 Merc 200hp 2-stroke to a newer 2018 Merc 150 4-stroke. I am wondering if my controls and wiring harness from current set up will work with the newer motor, or will this upgrade involve switching those over as well? Thanks!

    2001 Merc 60HP 4-stroke carb question

Alright folks, I am struggling here and feel like I must be missing something. I am working on getting a 2001 Merc 60hp bigfoot running again. After seeing the condition of the fuel lines and primer bulb, I am certain a carb cleaning is needed. Here is my question...how do I get the 4 carbs...

Different gear ratios on lower unit?

Hey all. A buddy of mine wore out the upper gears in his 4.3 Cobra lower unit. We are weighing the option of swapping out the gears versus replacing the upper half of lower with a used unit. Since we do not have a machine press, switching gears is near impossible. My question is this: I...

    Winterize a 1993 7.4 Bravo Gen V

Hey all. I've winterized numerous other Mercruisers, mostly smaller 3.0 engines. With the 7.4 is there anything additional I should do to ensure all the water is out? No issues with changing gear lube, oil and fuel filters, oil, and winterizing the inside water system. My question is focused...

    2001 Merc 200hp acceleration issues

Hey all. I have my 2001 Merc 200hp outboard (2 stroke). It has recently started having a hard time accelerating slowly. If i punch the gas, it takes off like a bat outta heck, but when I try and slowly accelerate the throttle it will bog and stall out. I'm thinking it needs a carb cleaning...

    Lowrance GPS issues??

I recently bought a Lowrance Elite ti fish finder. I have it all hooked up, but the internal GPS is not working! If I go into data sources, it shows GPS, then the next tab shows "Auto (invalid)????" what does that mean? I've tried everything and it will not lock onto any satellites. Just...

My is my Honda 8 hp outboard idling at 1,500 RPM

I don't think water temp should really matter. Definitely set the idle with motor in the water. Needs the back pressure to be correct. A bucket should be ok, just not off a hose with muffs. Honda says 900 +/- 50 for your rpm's, so even closer to 1000 rpm's should be okay.

My is my Honda 8 hp outboard idling at 1,500 RPM

    Yes. 900 RPM's for your 8hp.

Honda 8 hp outboard idles at 1,500 RPM, is this too high?

Idle speed for that motor should be about 900 RPM's per Honda's specs.

    Breaking in a rebuilt engine

Hey all. This past winter I had to have some serious work done to my 2001 Mercury 200hp. It needed to have a piston sleeve bored out, new piston, block honed, new head gaskets, and new rings installed on all other pistons. My question is what exactly should I do for breaking in the new piston...

What happened to my lower unit??

So I winterized my 2000 Merc 200hp outboard for the cold northern NY winter. I changed the gear lube to ensure there was no water in there to freeze. Well...I went out today and there is blue (what I am assuming is gear lube) all over the snow around my outboard. We have had a few spells of...

Why can't I set my timing?

Hey guys. I am completely stumped here. I have been working on my 2000 Mercury 200hp outboard, carbed model. I replaced the trigger, and now I cannot get the timing set! I am trying to set it to the cranking specs, but It will only go from 0 to maybe 10 BTDC and no further. What in the heck...

    What am I missing here?

Hey everyone. I am going a bit nuts here trying to figure out why I can't get my timing set. I have a 2000 Mercury 200hp (carb) outboard. I replaced the trigger assembly because the wires were rotted out. It started up and idles fine, but wouldn't really take the throttle and would not go...

2000 Mercury 200hp (carb) timing specs

Hey everyone. I am just wondering if anyone knows the correct max timing specs for a 2000 Mercury 200hp carb outboard. In the manual I was looking at it states that the max timing is set at 24 BTDC on one page, but then also states 20 BTDC on a different page. Should it be 24 or 20 BTDC...

2000 Mercury 200hp (carb) timing questions

Hey everyone. I just replaced the trigger assembly on my merc 200hp motor, and want to check the timing before I take it out. I have a few questions. Looking at the numbers in the manual for my 2000 merc 200 (carb), I see that it states that idle speed/pickup timing is 0-9 ATDC, the cranking...
