Merc 650 water tube/ exhaust gasket questions?

1969 Merc 650 4 cylinder I need some help, im not sure the orientation of the water tube/guide sleeve and rubber hose. Does the rubber hose go into the water pump housing or the guide sleeve. It seems I can't fit both but I'm probably doin something wrong. Also does the exhaust plate and...

    16ft Glasspar w/65hp 2 stroke

Sound advice, could use a cold one right now. I'm waiting on a few seals to show up and I can then mate the lower to the engine. I've got my current engine completely disconnected and ready to pull. Once I swap then it looks like just cleaning up some wiring and hopefully ready to go.

How about number of blades? I've seen some older units with 2 blade props A lot of em with 3 blade And I'm seeing newer stuff with 4 blades And does material affect performance or just longevity?

    16ft Glasspar w/65hp 2 stroke

Thanks a bunch guys, sorry for going quiet I've been under the weather lately. I do understand that I need a starting point. Currently mid motor swap from a 50hp to the 65hp so I will likely start with the 12.5 x 15 and get her running first. Then do some sea trials and log some numbers! Once...

    16ft Glasspar w/65hp 2 stroke

I've got a new to me, 1960 Glasspar Citation, that I'll be putting a 1969 Mercury 65hp 2 stroke on. I have acquired the hull, engine, and lower all separately and do not have a prop yet. I'm curious if anyone has a similar vessel and power plant that could spare their 2 cents on where to start...

Got the pressure tester on my new lower and heard some leakage at the lower pump housing so I tried(pryed) a little harder and got it off. The seals are toast so ill have to get those ordered up along with the base gasket. Anyone have a diagram for the lower? In other news I should be...

I'm assuming it wasn't getting water in there based off of "came from a good running fresh water unit" but I'm honestly not sure. If I get the lower pump housing off is there any thing else that comes off to do all the seals gaskets and orings? Does anyone have a diagram of the 1970 65hp lower?

Thanks, I looked at a new one online and it doesn't look too bad comparatively. Didn't realize it's a cam I ordered a pump kit today. Impeller was all there but definitely retired Does the lower pump housing come out? It looks like there's a gasket below?

Is it supposed to have that angle at the end of it? Sort of looks torn or at least worn

New drive showed up yesterday. Removed the water pump housing and impeller right away. Should get one ordered today. The rubber where the shifting cog is looks a little suspect. What do yall think?

Popped those bypass covers off. The rings still have a little spring in em and pistons don't look too trashed. It's hard to tell with such a small port but there was no bad scoring that I could see

Got around to draining the lower and it's milky. I believe that indicates bad shaft seals correct? Also without removing it I can't really tell if it can just be reversed, but I want to setup my lever head and helm wheel on the stbd side. And to me it doesn't really like like it just swaps...

I'm still planning on it to at least know where its at. Are both side covers bypass covers or just the stbd side? I did get another guage on it and seems 90-100 psi is accurate unfortunately

Ahhha of course. Glad I said something (because sometimes I'm too proud to admit I broke something). And real glad I didn't learn the hard way and keep going for it. thank you guys. I guess I snapped the bolt for a reason...to steer me away from removing unnecessary stuff 🤣 I should be able to...

Forgive me I dont know what Mercury calls it. The cover with the spark plugs...so I could inspect the top of the pistons. There's about 10 or so 5/16" steel bolts goin thru the aluminum cover and block with a captured nut on the back side. On the 2nd bolt I tried to remove I watched the head of...
