    14' Row boat ID, Crestliner?

I have acquired a 14' aluminum row boat and no idea exactly what it is. As best I can tell it's a Crestliner Commodore 14 by the measurements I've taken only all of the pictures I've found show that boat with 3 knee braces and this one only has one brace. I've looked at all material from 1954...

    VRO pump change

Hey folks looking for info of help. I have a 1987 Johnson 50hp that has been sitting in my garage for awhile now that I'm finally going to get to. The history on this one is that I'd picked it up as a parts motor because it had a complete working tilt and trim unit on it that I wanted. It had a...

    Carpet or varnish?

Well we finally got all the kids out of the house, 2adults and 3 grandchildren, and I've just about finally got the garage cleaned out so maybe I can finally start this project. The Alumacraft Classic 16 has boxes on the sides, one is a livewell and the other side is a rod locker. The tops and...

    BSOD Oh no.

I know this old machine is nearing it's end and in need of an update but as of late I've been experiencing the dreaded BSOD. Something about a physical memory dump. Not a clue as to the cause. Problems started a while ago when I'd get an error message that the video driver has stopped...

    What a storm last night.

After all these years I have to say that last night was the 1st time that I ever feared a storm. I normally enjoy watching the light show during a lightening storm but not this time. We had the storm cell pass right pass us, very fortunate that there was no tornado with it. We did get some good...

    Looking at a new project

I came across a nice looking 16' Starcraft project that I can pick up very cheap. The hull looks to be very clean and solid, there is no interior and no engine which isn't a problem because I already have one I can put on it. The catch is the paperwork. There is none! I was able to contact the...

    Life's cycles, a refection

As we see more often people of notoriety are passing on and leaving us with memories. A personal history. I come from a family of 8 children who are now all getting up in age. My eldest sister is 72 and my youngest brother is now 53. Our parents, aunts and uncles and an eldest brother have also...

Winter dole-drums has set in bringing to much time to think. So here is the thing. This silly flu season

Not to detract from this joyous Holiday season but is there anyone else here suffering from this latest flu? How bad does it get and how long does it seem to last? I'm now going on 3 days! Trying very hard not to let it hamper my spirit.

    Garage heaters

Looking to pick up a small heater to use in the garage, the garage is only about 250sq ft. Have been looking at both kerosene and propane type heaters in the 23000btu range figuring that would be more than enough. Question is which type is more fuel effiecent or which type is cheaper to operate...

New thought on plywood deck coating

As I'm game to sometimes try something new I came across this and was wondering what anyone here thinks Has anyone tried this stuff on anything? Why do you boat?

I started thinking more about this while particapating in TexasMarks topic. So why do you boat? Where do you find the interest? I right now do it as a means to another end. Fishing. In my area it is practically impossible to get on the water to fish w/o a boat. Not a lot of public access. So...

2 Police officers shot, Holiday Hills Il.

Normally I wouldn't post something like this accept for the fact that this is 2 houses from my eldest daughters house. I have talked with her and they are OK though she said the shots woke them all up. Which she then called 911 and the operator told her to lock all doors and do not go outside...

Pro Sports, anyone else losing interest?

I don't know if it's because I'm getting old or what. Pro Footbal just doesn't seem to be as much fun to watch anymore. It's now all about TV revenue, fantasy picks and officials. When you have to watch a game and you can tell which team the FOX or CBS announcers are rooting for then why have...

Just started tearing out the decking in my 16' Alumacraft Classic, the previous owner did a horrible job last time. Found a remenant piece of ply still in the boat from the original decking which measures and looks like 1/2". The last job was done with 5/8". To do this more correctly I need to...

Was helping a neighbor over the weekend with his engine as it was missing badly, no power and hard to start. He and another family member found it had weak intermittant spark so he ordered new points and started on it. Well of course he has never done this before and asked for help. I too...

    tilt/trim rebuild, fill and bleed?

Just finished rebuilding the cylinders on a 1987 50hp Johnson and am confused by the instructions in the manual on refilling them. It states to fill when the cylinders are fully extended. Am I supposed to open the release valve lift it and fill it 1st or fill, cycle, chech and fill again.
