Forward and reverse gear compatability 1962 28hp seahorse

Just thought I would double check with everyone that the forward and reverse gears are reversible on these gearboxes. It?s just that the reverse gear is a lot cheaper and why spend more than you have to .I already have a worn-out forward gear and was hoping to just swap over the bush into a new...

    Fuel filter and fuel mix

I have a 1979 4hp evinrude and I'm thinking of putting a fuel filter on the fuel line. The concern I have is that the fuel filter would cause too much resistance since fuel flow relies on gravity feed only. Also I would like to run the motor on a 25:1 mixture as this is what my main motor uses...

    Servicing old outboards

I recently got a 28hp 1962 (RX 10) Johnson outboard going. It’s done about 20 hours work since its rebirth and starts pretty easily (3 to 4 pulls) .I’m going further out into the bay since it’s seems to be a reliable motor and was wondering how often do you service these motors. For example how...

How much oil does gearbox hold

I have just got a 1962 28hp motor up and running .I decided to drain the gearbox oil after about 3hours use to see if any water had got in. The oil came out black so it looks like the gearbox is watertight. I can't remember how much oil it took to fill it up originally, about 300ml came out of...

1962 28hp sea horse fine tuning help needed

I finally got the motor up and running on my boat and am very happy with the result. The only issues are that the motor tends to miss at one particular throttle position.
