    The most basic question asked, when you turn the key to start do you have power to the starting relay coil?? Does it click and pull in? That was asked weeks ago. Someone even posted a diagram for you and showed where to check for power. I do not understand why your worried about the trim motor?

    The other guy who replied is an expert on Yamaha so he can help. Yup I spent two months this spring rebuilding and fixing a decent pontoon so I know the drill. Then I had to bring it back in and replace the water pump on the 40 Hp Yamaha 2007 model, but its working fine now. Good luck.

    1. Take a picture(s) of the other side of the starter. 2. The tie between the trim motor and starter is the connections from the battery to the engine.

    Did you look at your engine, do you know what a starter looks like? Solve one problem at a time, get a meter and do as suggested.

    And it could be as simple as a loose connection to the battery or elsewhere in the positive or negative circuit. If he has a meter with insulated jumper connections he can test it his self. Testing by following the above is the only way to find the problem.

    You have had some good instruction on how to check the voltage under load, and tracing heavy battery power wiring is not rocket science. Do as others have suggested take to someone who repairs these for a living. It could be as simple as a dead battery.

    You can not visually follow and trace out the wires from the battery? Batteries can have voltage but under a load it drops way low.

    The starting relay or contactor has to close before you get power. You need a wiring diagram or service manual, Or take to someone who knows how to troubleshoot. Makes no difference if its 2 or 4 stroke you need the service manual or diagram as suggested.

    Something is a little off on the shift rod thing, two pictures captured off videos do not show the same as OP has posted. Is the Year and Model correct? A service manual would really, really help.
