    ignition plate

    I have a 1958 18hp Johnson, the ignition plate has a minute amount of side to side play in it, I'm guessing this should not be like this, I think this led to my flywheel loosening several times and shearing the flywheel key the last time I had the engine out.

    I have a 1972 Star Craft 14ft. aluminum V-hull when I bought it the middle beam had been removed it doesn't seem to have compromised the structural integrity of the boat, my question is would it hurt to remove the front and rear beams also? Each beam is only made of a couple of 1x4s attached...

    I have an old Johnson outboard, the ID plate on the leg of the motor IDs it as a 1958 18HP, when I look up a parts list it shows this motor has one condenser, points, ect. but my motor has two of everything which leads me to think its not the original powerhead is there a way to ID the power...
