    Freshwater Boat to Saltwater

While I'm at it, how many of you saltwater boaters still use zinc anodes and how many have switched to aluminum?

    Flushing a Tohatsu M115A

A new-to-me Tohatsu M115A. Has anyone ever used that flushing port in the lower unit? It's next to, and looks the same as, where you put in lower unit lube. Mine does not look like it's ever been touched. I assume you take the cap off and screw in a hose-end attachment for a garden hose. I...

    Freshwater Boat to Saltwater

Thank so far. Outboard, Tohatsu 115. It has two anodes, a bar at the bottom of the transom bracket and a trim tab. I've checked at my normal source, and they don't have aluminum ones like are preferred now in Salt. A lot of supplier still are stuck on zinc. The fiberglass boat is my...

    Freshwater Boat to Saltwater

We are going to bring a used fiberglass Hurricane deckboat that has always been in freshwater to Englewood, FL/Lemon Bay. It will be kept in the water for 5 months. Do we need to bottom paint it, and what else should we do? Thanks.

    Trim Tab Anode

It went on fine. I have not taken the boat yet, so . . . .

    Trim Tab Anode

Kinda what I thought, that it looks like the anode will be in the way of the prop. (Of course, it wouldn't be for long!) I will know soon, since the anode arrived yesterday and I'll be doing the test drive, to feel the pull later today. The boat is new to us, so I don't know if the prop is...

    Trim Tab Anode

Sorry, I don't check real often. I think I would like one because I feel a little pull and the wheel is not centered. I like them for galvanic corrosion reasons, too. I just re-zinced our Florida toon with non-zincs, so it's no big deal. Thanks.

    Trim Tab Anode

Both of those answers are what I'm wondering about. What is there is nothing, but there is a trim tab "depression" and the thread where the bolt would hold it on. So, it looks like something is supposed to be there. The prop looks awful close to where the trim tab would hang down.

    Trim Tab Anode

Speaking of anodes (elsewhere), I just noticed that the new-to-us 2008 Sun Tracker Party Barge's Merc 50 does not have a trim tab anode on it. Should it?

    Saltwater Anodes

Regarding "zincs" v. aluminum alloy, have you looked into that lately? There's plenty of information on Al Gore's Internet that the US Navy discovered that zinc fails quickly in salt and brackish water, so they have switched to aluminum. The original zincs for our pontoon now have aluminum or...

    Saltwater Anodes

Because we lost our last pontoon to galvanic corrosion, I put five new anodes on our new-to-us pontoon in December. Instead of mooring it in the (saltwater) canal, we launch it at a public ramp. I washed it down and flushed it thoroughly after each use. But, the anodes have begun to sacrifice...

    Pontoon Tube Reconditioning Ideas Needed

Of course, there's only so much of your wife's efforts that you can stave off . . . so, we now have a very nice, used, freshwater Bass Buggy at our Florida Winter home. I swapped out three zinc anodes for aluminum and add two more, placing them on the transom below the water line. We sold our...

    1998 Merc 150 Stiff Steering

Funny, I did a google search, since I still have not cleaned and lubricated the steering rods and tubes, and want to do it this week when I clean the boat for Labor Dad, and this thread is what I found!!!!

Now the steering is really stiff in one direction and really easy the other.

    Pontoon Tube Reconditioning Ideas Needed

If anyone is still interested, I am one who has a leaky toon thread, and who prompted the Leaky Toon article in BoatUS magazine, if anyone saw that. One of our tubes pitted from galvanic corrosion, which we discovered when the pontoon was listed to starboard, the rear of the toon sitting on the...

Installing Pedestal Seats in a Key West, Key Largo or Palm Beach CC

Thanks. I don't check in very often; this forum is not an obsession . . . But, just now I was looking at an 18' CC on Fakebook Marketplace, and it has no seat behind the console. Just a stand-up arrangement. I understand what you're saying about construction, but me and mine would want seats...

    Leaky pontoons

If anyone is still interested, I am one who has a leaky toon thread, and who prompted the Leaky Toon article in BoatUS magazine, if anyone saw that. Installing Pedestal Seats in a Key West, Key Largo or Palm Beach CC

Any suggestions/hints/warnings about installing pedestal seats in the deck of a CC, probably near the cooler seat in front of the console?

    1998 Merc 150 Stiff Steering

Sorta what I was figuring. For now, I have turned the steering all the way to where almost all of the "rods" are out of the tubes. Yes, they had some old, hardened grease on them, giving an idea what's inside the tubes. But, for now I just cleaned those off with some light oil, and the...
