Honda BF75L starts, high revs but stalls out at idle

The only needle valve I remember is on the outside of the carb. It can be removed just looks like a screw. You can run some thin wire (I used a guitar string) up from the end to make sure it is clear. Thats the pilot jet. It clogs easily but just usually makes the engine really hard to start...

Honda BF75L starts, high revs but stalls out at idle

I have the short shaft version. That is a pretty typical symptom of needing a good carb cleaning and adjustment. If you are mechanically inclined it's not all that hard, I finally learned cause I got tired of paying for it. Watch a couple youtube videos. Take pictures before of all linkages...

    Honda BF75 Pre-1997 Not Peeing

I checked the hose that takes it from one side of engine to the other. I assume if I did the impeller right that I should have water before the intake manifold. What would stop water at this point? I wont know for sure I guess until I get the intake manifold back on. Bew a few days.

    Honda BF75 Pre-1997 Not Peeing

So I replaced Impeller. Not as hard as I expected. Definitely had damager but should have been pushing water. Replaced caps and gaskets and impeller. Still no water flow. So I assumed thermostat but after removing intake manifold I see that water should always be passing through. I'm not...

    BF75S (Pre 1997) Wont Start

No probs. Its a bummer when people don't post the answer if they get one. Read so many dead threads trying to figure this out. I would have sworn it wasn't the brand new carb! lol But now this engine has really been gone through. Knew it was likely to teach me some lessons when I bought it...

    BF75S (Pre 1997) Wont Start

Final Fix: There is a low speed jet or pilot jet near the idle mixture screw accessible from the outside of the carburetor. I unscrewed it and ran a wire guitar string (G) from the bottom till it grounded out. Then through the larger hole on the side. Screwed it back in. Started second pull...

    BF75S (Pre 1997) Wont Start

Compression test at 125 exactly even on both sides. A bit low for a 4 stroke but I haven't been able to find the expectation for this specific engine. Also this is just getting the tester finger tight and using the pull rope until it no longer increases. But that should be enough to start and...

    BF75S (Pre 1997) Wont Start

Yes I have drained the bowl and use the bulb to push new fuel into the carb. I can hear the bowl fill and the bulb gets hard.

    BF75S (Pre 1997) Wont Start

I took off the carb and opened it up and spray carb cleaner through all orifices (I didn't remove the float and the pin and spray under that). Then blew the same out with the air compressor. Put the carb back on and same result. Spray gas into throat of carb lets it start a little then die.

    BF75S (Pre 1997) Wont Start

So using some starting fluid helps it sound like it wants to start. Starts a little then just dies.

    BF75S (Pre 1997) Wont Start

I have confirmed the emergency shut off switch would not allow spark to the plugs if that were the issue. I have not been able to confirm how the neutral safety switch works on a pull start engine. Mine will pull in gear. Update: Wiring from the NSS goes to the CDI module. I expect if the...

    BF75S (Pre 1997) Wont Start

Been trying at various points for a couple days so I don't think its flooded. I have not tried with throttle full open I will see if I can manage that. My next thought was also starting fluid.

    BF75S (Pre 1997) Wont Start

Yup already did as I stated in the original post. Both plugs show spark when grounded to the engine.

    BF75S (Pre 1997) Wont Start

It looks like there was one (empty hole on casing) but its not obvious it was bypassed. This was my question, would I get spark if that was a problem?

    BF75S (Pre 1997) Wont Start

Yes. New carb. It does have a small arrester that bolts to the carb and to the engine with same bolts so I cant remove it and see directly. The arm is pushing it well to the closed position.

    BF75S (Pre 1997) Wont Start

This engine was running fine last week. Had just replaced the carb due to the wrong carb being on the engine. Someone had done some fancy work. It ran but crappy, new carb would start in a couple few pulls no problem and running great at full speed and lower speeds as well. 10 days between...

Engine Does Not Crank - No Tilt/Trim

Thank you for mentioning that. I do have one. I guess I didn't even think to verify the fuse that way cause I fully expected that to be the issue given the symptoms. But really I could have checked for 12v on both sides of the fuse to know if I had an issue before the fuse. Need to start...

Engine Does Not Crank - No Tilt/Trim

So I removed solenoid and starter wires to see everything below and thought I found it only to pull up an unused harness connection. Not sure what its for but its defiantly capped with a rubber plug. Then I read that thread again and started looking by the coil. There is a plastic cover...

Engine Does Not Crank - No Tilt/Trim

Main fuse? That is what I was wondering really seems like a fuse issue. Would love to check it if I could find it.
