HELP! Clymer says 2 ATDC-2 BTDC, Seloc says 7-9 BTDC for idle

I have a 1985 75 HP Mecury. I'm trying to determine the correct timing at idle just as the carbs begin to open. I have contradicting information: Clymer Service Manual: 2 ATDC-2 BTDC Seloc Service Manual: 7-9 BTDC Sticker on air silencer cover: "4 ATC when running" Clams' link and synch...

    Throttle Linkage Question - 1985 75 HP

I've been reading up on the link and sync procedure. The way the throttle is currently set on this motor, the throttle pickup on the top carb is making contact with the cam at idle, cracking the throttle plates open a bit. Should the cam be pushed completely away to where it does not make...

Can anyone identify these fuel pump parts? - Picture Attached - 1985 75HP

I have a 1985 75 HP Mercury with the triangle fuel pump. I am missing the spring and cap (6 and 7) in the diagram attached. Does anyone know what these are for, and how are they installed? Does the cap press directly against the diaphragm? Thanks.

Permatex No. 2 sealant - is this suitable for crankcase halves? 1985 75HP

I'm currently rebuilding a 1985 75HP 4 CYL. The service manual calls for Permatex 2C-12 on the crankcase halves when using the cork gasket strip. Is this the same stuff as Permatex #2 sealant? Is it a better idea to use anerobic sealant instead (such as Loctite Master Gasket, Gel Seal etc.)?

Installing seals in lower end cap - which way to they face? 1985 75HP

Which way do the two seals face in the lower end cap? The Clymer manual states that the spring and lip of the lower seal should face the lower unit, and the spring and lip of the upper seal should face the block. Is this correct? Thanks.

    Installing pistons without ring compressor-Am I doing this correctly? 1985 75HP 4CYL

Can someone lead me in the right direction? The bottom of every cylinder is beveled/chamfered about 1/8", so I'm having no problem installing the pistons into the cylinders. A lot of people are talking about breaking rings and using compressors when installing pistons, but mine seem to slip in...

Democrats Drove New Orleans Down The Tube

Democrats have been in control of the city for 60 some years. And now look at what happened. No planning and no serious leadership. Look at how many poor and gangs and criminals have grown there over 60 years. The democrats didn't do anything to help these people get out of their situation...

I replaced the plastic bypass valve and spring yesterday and am now experiencing overheating problems. No water comes out of the two small ports at the rear of the engine at idle or during any other time. I have plenty of water coming out of the exhaust snout at the gearcase, but it is not...
