I have a 1992 25 hp Johnson that I use on average at an elevation between 5600-6500. the problem I have is keeping a plan when cruising across the lake. Would this be a issue a prop could fix? If so what would I want for these elevations?

2000 4 hp 4 stroke trolling motor will start with one pull idle for about 2 minutes then when I put it into gear it dies. now it even dies when it is just in idle
today went out on the boat started right up had fun for about an hour killed the motor ate lunch went to start the boat up the ignition switch had 2 wires come out. I wire tied them up tried to start for a couple times. now i have zero power. What do you think it is? please say the switch.
