Trailer lighting lesson learned

So I refurb'd my boat trailer, and added new wiring and LED tail lights. Hooked it up to my '95 F-150 and one side turn signal works, other stays lit and won't flash (like it's shorted somewhere), but, it lights in the back. Also, I couldn't see an increased brightness when brakes were on...

What color should I paint this?

I hate to ask, but I need some opinions on this. My original plan to use white on the hull got dumped since I used all the paint for my trailer. Things to consider: Georgia red clay on the hull just about every time I'll take it out. Seats are gray, bow seats white, and will be used again...

Wagner Power Painter Wide Shot 2200psi

Well, airless sprayers get such bad rap around here (from reading other posts, everyone says throw them in the trash) so figured I'd post my experience. I roll/tipped my 21ft trailer yesterday with an (unthinned) alkyd enamel - took about 3 hours for 2 coats, including using a brush for the...

    Gas tank recommendations

Deck's going in next week and it's time to decide what to use for a fuel tank for my 60hp Merc on a 18' Starcraft. Option 1 - Use the 18 gal (?) Mirax fuel tank (with level sender) that was in there when I bought it. It's rusty on the outside, so I'm guessing it probably needs attention on the...

Am I allowed to use this carpet?

Yeah yeah yeah - carpet traps water, stains easily, gets fish guts in it, etc.... BUT, does this apply to the plastic astroturf-type stuff too? I just don't see how it could hold much water, being plastic (I know it will a little though, but I plan on drying it out after each outing anyhow)...

Is my trailer too small for my boat? (pics)

    1) My first boat (18'6" Starcraft SuperSport) & trailer. It towed fine the 60 miles to pick it up last summer (with no engine). Previous owner never launched with this setup - he kept the good trailer. 2) I can get a larger trailer (21ft, about 3ft longer than this trailer) for about $100...

Evinrude 48 SPL - what year is it?

Can anyone help me? My dad just bought a boat and is trying to verify the year of the motor. Off the motor: Model No. E48ESLCER, Serial No. Q02262907. I can post pictures if needed.

Is this fiberglass rip fixable? (pics)

My aunt: "That trailer in the shed, you can have it" Me: "Jetski too?" Her: "It has a hole in it! Take it if you want it, I guess" Me: "Oh, I can fix that!" So, I have a free jetski and trailer. Supposedly it ran good before, if that influences whether it's worth fixing or not. There is a 12"...

Pulling out transom on an aluminum boat

1979 Starcraft 18' SuperSport. I just don't see how this "pulls straight out" as everyone's told me (see the aluminum on top of the wood?). Maybe the wood has to be pulled down from inside the hull to remove it? (If so, the whole splash guard needs to be loosened, so I hope not....) Anyone...

    Supersport 18'6" deck template

I (in all my engineering nerdiness) decided to make a CAD template of the deck. If anyone would like a copy (PDF), PM me with your email address. I can't post it here due to size restrictions, and don't know of any (decent) file hosting for free. Here's a low-res version to temp you:

Help needed w/ trailer setup (pictures)

My second boat (still don't have one that's seaworthy yet, but I digress...) Bottom line is, I don't know how to properly set up a trailer. I've read: Have 7-10% of total weight as tongue weight. Bunks should extend underneath transom to support it. Boat is a 18'6" Starcraft with no motor...

Newest Starcraft owner ('79 18'6" SuperSport - pics!)

Well, I'm now an official member of the brotherhood - just picked up this SuperSport last night; it's my first Starcraft. It needs the transom replaced, although it's sturdy enough to hold a 'rude 115 for a lake visit a month ago (according to the previous owner). Floor has aluminum diamond...

$200 Starcraft - should I get it? (pictures)

I posted another thread on the fiberglass boat I got for (basically) free with a good 60hp Mercury. Problem is, gelcoat on the hull is shot from years of sitting in the water, and I've discovered 2 soft spots in the floor and 1 in the transom. Many suggested I find another hull. This'll be my...

Take a look at my hull (pictures) - what needs to be done here?

Just picked up this boat yesterday (traded for a riding lawn mower I paid $25 for). It's my first boat! ... floor is rock solid fiberglass, the '85 60HP Mercury's been rebuilt, and it's on a galvanized trailer, so hopefully the hull's OK because everything else is. I think (hope) someone...

Mercury 60hp - what year? (and help getting started...)

Been looking for 2 years for the right one - I finally got my first boat yesterday! I traded a $25 riding mower for it (gotta love Craigslist...). We were both happy. Anyhow.... Serial number is 6550605. I was told it's maybe a mid-90's model. Anyone know what year? Are there any scanned...

    Opinions - 1st boat, 1972 Glassmaster for $400

50hp Johnson that doesn't run, but has all new ignition on it. Needs seats. Floor's been repaired in one spot, transom's good. $400 w/ trailer.

Is this worth driving 90min to go look at this weekend? Been looking for a boat that's cheap and simple - an old outboard looks like my...
