Mercury 1150 Water In Bottom 2 Cylinders

Ok. I added 2 stroke oil to the cylinders thru the plug holes and fogged the engine thru the carbs. I undid the throttle linkage so I could hold the butterflies open. And I cranked the engine (no muffs) about 5-10 seconds per carb, 3 times. I did not see anything come out the exhaust. But I'm...

Mercury 1150 Water In Bottom 2 Cylinders

Should I put the spark plugs back in after putting 2 stroke oil in the cylinders? I guess so? It will be damn hard to get the oil down in that #6 plug hole haha.

Mercury 1150 Water In Bottom 2 Cylinders

Ok! I totally understand the urgency, I will fog the absolute crap out of the engine today. Since I don't want to introduce any more water I should crank the engine over with no ear muffs, no fuel connected, and spark plugs in? To ensure the fogging oil makes it way to the exhaust (doesn't just...

Mercury 1150 Water In Bottom 2 Cylinders

Ok. This is unfortunate. I'm definitely not able to get this done in time for the planned trip next week. And to be honest with a repair of that level I would probably just get a different engine altogether (I already hoped to get a 4 stroke some time in the future). I have the boat out of the...

Mercury 1150 Water In Bottom 2 Cylinders

I got the boat out of the water. I was going to take off the exhaust cover today. But I'm looking at it now, and it seems like you would have to lift the powerhead to remove it? Because lower bolts are blocked by the lower cowl? Is this correct?

Mercury 1150 Water In Bottom 2 Cylinders

Don't worry I'm not running it as is. I stopped running the boat the day that the issue came up. I'm gona tow it to the launch and put it on the trailer this morning. What people said on my facebook post is to remove the exhaust cover (Sorry, port side). And look inside and see if the middle...

Mercury 1150 Water In Bottom 2 Cylinders

I also posted this one facebook and got corrected, I meant the exhaust baffle / cover, not the water jacket. the part on the starboard side of engine.

Mercury 1150 Water In Bottom 2 Cylinders

Earlier this year you guys helped me get my 1150 going. I did basically a full tuneup on it and it's been great up until now. The boat is moored on lake union in seattle which has a speed limit of 7mph. So during the last 2-3 weeks I've had it out maybe 10 times, going at low RPM the whole time...

    1150 Link & Sync Question

Yes, I was planning to pull the cowling and do that exactly. As well as poking the little hole with a paper clip or something. The stream pressure went from 100% to very weak very suddenly. So I assume it must be an obstruction

    1150 Link & Sync Question

I was able to get the boat out again for the 4th of july weekend. We headed over across the puget sound to stay overnight at blake island. I haven't made any adjustments to the engine position or tilt. I did raise the idle a bit more (once again) so that it can now return back to idle after...

    1150 Link & Sync Question

I have my tilt pin on the second position, which makes the outboard vertical (transom has a negative angle). Should I really lower it so the outboard will have a negative angle too?

    1150 Link & Sync Question

Jimmbo, it also occured to me last night that the spray seems to have gotten worse after removing the whale tale. If you view both videos from before and after, I think you will see it. So I may want to put it back on? Also, I'm not at WOT, I'm running the engine at the lowest possible RPM...

    1150 Link & Sync Question

In the video you can see it's more severe on the port side. You can see a solid stream hitting the aluminum corner trim. But it is also spraying evenly/less severe across the whole transom. You can see a softer vertical spray on the starboard side.

    1150 Link & Sync Question

Ok had the boat out again today. Here are my notes. Fully trimmed down I was getting about 29mph and a lot of spray. If I trim up just barely (very short button press) the speed increases to about 30mph. and spray goes down maybe 25%. As I trim up the speed increases to a maximum stable...

    1150 Link & Sync Question

Oh I see. the planar surface of the transom is 20" but the vertical distance is less due to the angle. Wow, I should have thought of that. The phone GPS app for speed, would help me determine best trim position at ideal rpm correct? I assume trimming up would make the speed increase to a peak...

    1150 Link & Sync Question

My boat is heavy and I plan to load it down with 4 people and camping gear at minimum. so maybe the low application wont be that bad, per the diagram. as long as I can still get on plane.

    1150 Link & Sync Question

Oh I see. I was looking at the wrong fin. So I am what, an inch low? If you draw a straight line (level) from transom to outboard it is less than what's shown on the ruler since the keel is angled down steeply. Well jeez why would that happen? Transom is just too short? I thought if I built a...

    1150 Link & Sync Question

Sorry my sketch there was trying to show 1-1/2" spacing between the hull and cavitation plate, which I've read is standard. Where is the hull meant to be relative to the lower plate you're pointing to? Also I guess I don't understand how trim works yet, would I want to create MORE negative...

    1150 Link & Sync Question

Yeah I think I am about 1/4" low. And I wish it didn't have the radius, but I think I would've needed to build it up with filler basically. The outside of the transom had to be built from scratch so when I was wrapping 4 layers of 1700 fabric around that corner, the radius was unavoidable. I...

    1150 Link & Sync Question

I did like how quick it got on plane. I wonder how much it's helping.
