    Restoring 1970's Baja boats

I purchased a 1973 Baja DV160 this spring. It's needing a new floor in a major way. The previous owner added and glassed in a second layer of plywood many years ago. I've stepped through both layers in two spots. The transom looks really good, reinforced with aluminum crossmember from the...

    v4 powerheads and parts interchangeable?

Got a 1987 88hp Evinrude and I'm looking at a Fish&Ski w/a questionable 1991 90hp Johnson. Are the powerheads and lower units interchangeable? I will want to retain the T&T on the 90hp, as my 88hp doesn't have it.

    Sugar in gas?

I suspect my neighbor may have tampered with my tanks. I take it he doesn't like the sound of a 90 horse outboard in the morning. I hate to discard 10+ gallons of good fuel, but I don't want to damage my engine. Will sugar dissolved in fuel damage a 2-stroke? Are locking caps available for the...

    Fuel left in air silencer

My recently aquired 1987 88hp runs well, but is it normal for for a small amount of fuel (an ounce or two) to be left in the air silencer after a trip to the lake? I have ran engine at idle with the silencer removed and had no noticable "spit" from carbs to indicate damaged reed valves. Is it...

    1973 Baja valuable?

Bought a 1973 16' Baja a couple of weeks ago. I've been led to believe that this is the second year model. It's in really good shape to be 30 years old. Does anybody know if it could be valuable?

    Time to rebuild carbs?

Just taken my 1987 88hp out on its first run since trying it out. The engine idles well and does really well at full throttle. My concern is that there's not much in between. The throttle is unresponsive until approx 45 degrees and then it comes alive all at once. I found it difficult to...

    High-Temp Buzzer Operation

I don't believe my '73 Baja w/'87 88hp has been equipped with a high-temp warning buzzer.(No gauges either.)I traced the tan wires from each head, and found an extra one on the left side with a rubber end on it. Each of the three wires tests as "hot" when the switch is on.(I did not test with...

    Adding temp gauge to V4

When adding temp gauage to a 1987 88hp V4 where does it attach to engine? I seem to have an extra tan wire coming from harness on the left side. What is considered normal operating temp range when used in S.C. waters?

    '87 V4 t-stat installation

I wasn't thinking ahead when I disassembled it. It kinda flew apart. I was a little preoccupied with the bolt that broke off. The sensing end of the stats face the block right?

    T-stat question

Great forum guys! Just purchased my first boat. It's powered by a '87 Evinrude 88hp V4. It hasn't had much maintenance and I want to get it ready to hit the water. I plan on picking up a manual soon, but I hope to check out the t-stats tomorrow. I just need someone to tell me where to look...
