    Running warm after overheat event

2014 V8-380-CD. Closed cooling. My marina gets to less than 2’ of water at low tide. When docking yesterday, I had my first overheat event after expecting it to happen someday after all these years of docking in shallow muddy water. Alarm sounded while at idle speed and I immediately saw the...

    8.1 gi-b misfire / backfire

Is this a closed loop system with O2 sensors? If so, what’s your short term fuel trim look like on each bank when warmed up?

    Fuel pump “over spraying?”

Ok, seems like I jumped to conclusions regarding the regulator being the failed part on the pump, It’s most likely the float assembly in the fuel cooler cell. The needle assembly tends to gunk up preventing the float from shutting off fuel to the vent, which connects directly to the intake...

    Fuel pump “over spraying?”

I agree, but this is the diagnosis from the authorized VP service center. Is this even possible? For what’s it’s worth, since this is a returnless fuel injection, pressure modulation is done by an integral regulator at the fuel pump. So if the regulator failed, it means whole pump replacement...

    Fuel pump “over spraying?”

Been battling a bad misfire issue on my 2014 V8-380-C-D. Rich codes on both banks, you can see the short term trim pull fuel on both banks as soon as the O2 sensors come online. Oil getting lots of fuel contamination. Raw fuel on spark plugs. Threw in the towel and decided to let a local VP...

VP 380 wont has fire, fuel wont start

For what it’s worth, I was able to get my engine to fire by doing an oil change. The original issue is still there, a bad misfire condition when warm, and that apparently was causing a lot of unburned fuel to accumulate in the oil to the point where there was not sufficient oil pressure during...

VP 380 wont has fire, fuel wont start

I have a 380-C-D, and I currently have a no-start situation, too. Crank and no fire after a stall. Starting scan tool diagnostics this week, will keep you posted. Your original failure sounds like a plastic coolant temp sensor fitting failed. FYI, there is a factory recall for those, so you...

    SPN 4236 FMI 1 troubleshoot

Thanks, yep, tried googling and no real answer, even my VP engine repair manual doesn’t define bank numbers. Thought about swapping sensors left/right, but even if it follows the sensor, I still wouldn’t know which one was bad, lol. I think I’ll disconnect one of the sensors and run the...

    SPN 4236 FMI 1 troubleshoot

2014 VP V8-380-C-D engine. A sporadic issue I’ve had over the last couple seasons is now happening pretty regularly. Slight misfires felt and the engine light and audible alarm will sound, engine then goes into limp mode. Cutting power gets me out of limp mode.Code I get via my Easyconnect app...

    DPS pressure and vac testing

Drive was pulled, no water found in bellows. I then pulled the top cap off the drive to make repeated filling and draining with new oil easier, to flush out the water. That‘s when I noticed a few small trails of corrosion that made their way past the top cap seal, which is a double lipped...

    DPS pressure and vac testing

Pulling the drive this week. No evidence of a bent shaft. For the record, there hasn’t been loss of oil, just water ingestion. Always proper level on dipstick, and no oil sheen ever sheen on water. Props were refinished a couple season ago, small ding on outer edge of one blade. No impacts since.

    DPS pressure and vac testing

Yes, I assume it is water left over. What’s the best way to fully flush it out?

    DPS pressure and vac testing

Well, did the vac and pressure test again today, and couldn’t find any issue. Drained oil fully, pressurized to 5 psi, twisted prop shaft back and forth, shifted gears forward back, pushed in on the gear selected, and pressure held for 10 minutes. Did the same at 10 psi, and then at 5 and 8 in...

    DPS pressure and vac testing

Thanks for that note. Here’s a related question for the group: boat is in the marina warehouse (Maryland), so I won’t be able to run it and get the outdrive oil warmed up. Any issue removing the drain plug and pushing out the oil with a few psi of pressure applied to the upper fill hole? It’s...

    DPS pressure and vac testing

Boat is in my marina high and dry, plan on doing a full re-check this weekend. There is a chance I may have gotten water in my bellows through the bilge, as I had a weeping water pump that I wasn’t aware of and a blocked bilge pump discharge port (lake inspector put rubber plug in that port...

    DPS pressure and vac testing

Drained the oil on my 2014 DPS-B drive at end of last season and was bummed to see oil the color of Bailey’s. Approx 400hrs on it. With oil drained, I hooked up my pressure tester, and it held 15psi for 10 minutes. I didn’t have a vac tester, so I plan to do that test this month. Soapy water...

    Garmin 720S maps question

Don't do any fishing but would like a single SD card that can show me depth charts for Upper Chesapeake and Lake George NY. Boat came with Worldmaps installed which don't seem to have any resolution. Bluechart? LakeVu? Anyone know which to buy?

    2014 380hp 8.1 GiC, is time@rpm logged in ECU?

According to surveyor of boat I am looking at, scanning ECU will not yield time@rpm data. Is that correct? You can get that data from Mercruiser ECUs.
