    Quick update on this one, took the belts off tonight and fired it up - sounds the same. So I’ve ruled out the alternator, power steering pump and water pump… If this boat has a noisy gimble bearing could that noise make this sound? Any ideas what else it might be?

    I have the same as well, 4.3MPI, 4,000 RPM and 40mph. Have dropped from 21p Ali to 19p stainless and made no difference.

    Hi, I have a 2005 4.3 MPI MerCruiser that sounds a little strange. Does this sound like it is coming from the water circulation pump? Hard to tell when listening to it. I’ve replaced the alternator and it still sounds the same (that wasn’t charging hence the swap out) also the tensioners spins...

    Great info guys thanks! Last night I took a wire wheel in the drill to the manifolds and cleaned them up / repainted. They look great now and hardly any corrosion as suggested by Lou C

    Thanks, that’s exactly what I did (replace thermostat) it’s now reaching temperature correctly. I haven’t water tested it yet other than running it on the hose and all seems good now (it’s reaching temp for the first time) It was interesting to see what I thought was stopping the thermostat...

    What parameters would the ECM/ECU adjust on a 4.3MPI if the thermostat was stuck open and the motor therefore running cold at around 100deg or less (rather than the usual 160ish)? I guess it would richen the mixture, but what else like timing, reduced power as engine not up to operating temp...

    Yeah makes sense, I’d prefer to be able to run it hard for 20min to make sure all is good. There is zero warranty through a broker in the UK, big risk really. It’s not cheap either.

    Its been on fresh water for the last few few years (river, 5mph speed limit) and buying through a broker limits your ability to speak to the owner. Can’t even open the boat up to test at full power due to speed limit on the river.

    Looking at a 2005 Regal with a 4.3MPI, the broker doesn’t know when the risers were last changed. Looking at the picture (and EPA sticker) are these likely originals from 2005? Also they look a bit questionable at the rear side?
