    60 HP 4 stroke hood won't latch

My dad's boat has a 2019 Mercury 60 HP 4 stroke outboard. The rear hood latch WILL NOT latch. We haven't had this motor long but isn't it supposed to latch by slamming the hood down into the latch??? Anyone else had trouble with this on these motors??? Thanks.

1998 Mercury 225 slipping at high speeds

When you say trim out, does that mean trim up a little more?

1998 Mercury 225 slipping at high speeds

No because the last time it did it, it jumped to the opposite side.

Adding fins to a 50's 60's vintage boat

Thanks for the info. The main thing I wonder about is being able to make them both the same (the pair) - like a mold would almost be needed. I'll do the research on YouTube 👍

Adding fins to a 50's 60's vintage boat

I have a 1961 vintage runabout Crestliner inherited from my dad...there's a lot of memories in this boat. I have it mostly restored. It's red and white - I always wished it had fins like some of the Glastrons from this era. Here's a question just for the heck of it...anyone here ever added a...

Yes there's a transducer at the stern - no power poles

1998 Mercury 225 slipping at high speeds

The rear is shooting to the side, not forward...and it's a 225, not a 200. I'm running it normal and gently, not doing anything out of the ordinary...I'm not even quite full throttle when it usually does it. It's not a chinewalk - the rear suddenly jerks to one side while driving straight down...

1998 Mercury 225 slipping at high speeds

That's just what the guy at the boat ramp called it, a rubber washer, but he was only guessing...I have no idea. The boat doesn't have a jackplate. I notice it at about any trim setting, especially a higher trim setting which everyone rants about giving the boat a better ride...maybe I should...

1998 Mercury 225 slipping at high speeds

Motor is a 3.0, not sure about offset and height, has a 4 blade prop. It's the original motor that came on my 20 ft Ranger bassboat.

1998 Mercury 225 slipping at high speeds

I have a 1998 Mercury 225 EFI on my bassboat. When I almost get to full throttle, driving straight down the lake, the stern of the boat suddenly slides to one side a bit. Scares me every time lol. A guy at the boat ramp said it could be a rubber washer missing at the prop??? Not sure what he was...

25hp to 35hp with carb swap???

I have a 1989 Johnson 25 hp and the weight of it is perfect for my little 14ft 1961 vintage runabout. The boat originally came with a 40 hp so I wanted to ask if it's true that all it takes to make my 25hp a 35hp is the carb? Yes I know I won't be able to tell much of a difference - only 1-2 mph...

    Leaking fiberglass livewell

Good thinking, probably wouldn't last. I have worked with fiberglass a little in the past. Probably best to put another layer on, like you said. 👍

    Leaking fiberglass livewell

Hello. I have a 1974 Ranger fiberglass boat and I started noticing the boat had a slow leak in the floor. The carpet in the lower floor would be mostly wet at the end of an outing. Turns out it was coming from the livewell located in the front deck. I know fiberglassing it would be the correct...

Late 70's Johnson 35 hp question

I'm looking at buying a Johnson 35 hp outboard (I think 1977 year model). The seller measured the shaft for me - I need a 15" shaft, I believe it's the right shaft but can I confirm it by the serial number plate? Plate says Model # 35E77H Serial # E4687702. I have got to MAKE SURE it's a 15"...

1984 Johnson Javelin 85 hp blows up

Dad's boat motor blew up this week while fishing Toledo Bend in LA/TX. This motor had been rebuilt in recent years and was low houred. Just wanted to ask what could of happened. I know operating a boat and maintaining it properly consists of many do's and don'ts. Motor was a 1984 Johnson Javelin...

    Everstart Batteries???

I returned an Everstart cranking battery to Walmart tonight. It suddenly quit cranking my motor and wouldn't charge up. It likes a few days being a year since the purchase date and the battery says free 1 year replacement. But tonight, they tell me at Walmart that the computer says it's not able...

    225 EFI, mix gas???

Just wanted to ask who all here owns a 225 EFI around year 1998, and mixes their gas/oil in the fuel tank? I've heard of people (including me) who are afraid the mixer may quit any day now with a motor this old. I'm thinking about unhooking the mixer and mixing my gas/oil when filling up. Yay...

225 EFI makes quiet winding sound when starting

I have a 1998 Mercury 225 EFI on my boat. It's always ran great but it had been randomly giving trouble when starting. It would start great almost every time while out fishing, but some of the cranks would be a very quiet winding noise. Then it'd start fine on the next try. This would happen...

Right Prop for Mercury 25 HP???

I have a 1981 Mercury 25 hp that I'm ordering a new prop for. Problem is, I don't know a lot about props so I'm having trouble deciding which pitch and diameter I need. I have my serial # wrote down but most places online doesn't ask for it anyway. After selecting the HP and year, I get asked...
